SAMSUNG S27A950D - Alternatives?

I bought this from another e-tailer who hasn't delivered and doesn't respond to any form of contact I have so I'm going to claim back the money from my credit card company.

I was wondering if there are any alternatives to this monitor? Something that has the same performance of LED/120HZ but look's just as good with the ultra thin profile of the monitor. I would get the 750D but it would mean I need to change my graphics card and I can't be bothered dealing with any displayport issues.

If you had committed to buying the 950D then you hopefully made an informed decision. Why not go with that again? It's a unique monitor - the only glossy 27" 120Hz 3D monitor out there. And the profile is thinner than the other alternatives such as the ASUS VG278H and this is something you mentioned you liked.

I'm thinking I may have to just get the Samsung and pay a little more. The website I found it had it listed at £400! Their online store reviews were hit and miss so I decided to take the chance and go for it. Guess I was one of the unlucky ones. I'll get my moneyback through the credit card company anyways i'll just have to pay a bit extra for the monitor.

Perfect spec monitor but just doesn't look anywhere near as good as the Samsung. Was just wondering if there were any other ultra thin monitors around but I guess not.

Is this monitor now not being sold/made anymore? I have contacted a few different shops OCUK themselves have randomly taken it off their website and others who are out of stock when prompted say the manufacturer are no longer making this product anymore. I'm very confused.

Wouldn't surprise me with all the displayport issues, i have just got mine back with a generic letter saying its been repaired but how do they repair it if it needs a firmware fix?
Will see how it goes, i see OCUK don't have the 950, so i guess they are getting ready for a next model, we were guinea pigs for Samsung.
Also i put a negative review about the monitor with 2 stars, OCUK never put it up! I noticed they have just put up a positive review, weather this is illegal for companies to do this i would like to know.
And theres only 4 reviews of a monitor that must be sold by the hundreds, tells me there were more negative reviews that were not passed as it would affect sales, i'm sure this post gets deleted but hey how are we supposed to get our point across.

Here is my update after sending my 750D to be repaired.
What i expected was not a repair as most people claim it needs a firmware update or something similar from Samsung to fix this issue about the displayport.
So i thought they may just send me a replacement.
But a week later i got the same one back , opened up the box it didn't say what they had done just a generic slip saying its been repaired and if you have any further problems don't contact Samsung contact Viewtek Display Services, these are the people that do the repairs.
I was surpised to get a phone call once they recieved the monitor a technician asking the problem like he'd never heard of it!
So it makes me wonder weather this problem is getting back to Samsung as you don't contact them for the repair.
So anyaway i wasn't holding out much hope as i got the same monitor back, same serial etc but after 3 days i have no problems to report, only time it went black was a driver change, i think this is because it had to detect the diplay port driver once booted.
So i don'tt know what they have done i may phone them later, because everyone was pointing to a firmware/software fix even Nvidia said it had problems.
So we will see how it goes, it could still go but this is the longest i have had with no problems.

@ Vegeta and borley

Samsung are not discontinuing the SA950 or SA750 series. They have nothing to replace them with in the immediate future. The SB750 series are 'Smart Monitors' that lack 3D capabilities. Having spoken to various Samsung employees (PR, media and engineers) - they are aware of the issues you have presented and are working on a new revision. This is a wider problem with DisplayPort so it isn't necessarily something Samsung themselves will be able to fix. There are some other issues including panel faults which will also be ironed out (apparently) by moving to a new production line for the new revision. They have withdrawn the SA750 series from sale in the United States and have entered low production rates over here for both the SA750 and SA950 pending the new revision.

Thanks good to know:) So when you say revision do you mean maybe a firmware upgrade?
I noticed you edited your post to say the display port issue maybe something Samsung might not be able to fix, so if the revision means a different version of the monitor to fix this do you think we will be able to send ours back to get the new version if we run into problems?

Given what was said about the panel/factory issues the new revision will be a hardware change. There may be a firmware update as well but that isn't clear - if this DisplayPort issue is sorted out then that aspect would probably be something that a firmware update or driver update could fix.

Thanks again for the reply, surely OCUK and other outlets should stop selling these then if even Samsung acknowledge faulty monitors? I mean it does depend on how widespread but it seems a lot have issues.

hi borley
glad they seem to have sorted out your problem, i would be intrested to know what they did, my 750d is runing fine but would like to know a fix incase i have problems in the future

There have been many instances where monitors have been improved with various hardware revisions to correct certain issues. Dell are famous for having several revisions for many of their UltraSharp monitors - and some of these had some major issues in the early days. Because the issues don't affect everyone it isn't something that would warrant a total termination of production or a recall. I certainly think it was a mistake for Samsung to include only DisplayPort on the S27A750D given how temperamental it is but it is a bit of a design limitation specific to that model and not shared by the S27A950D. They weren't specific about the panel issues being addressed but it could hopefully have something to do with uniformity improvements on the SA950 in particular. And I hope something as simple as a firmware fix for existing models does come about for the DisplayPort issues that affect some users.
