As the title says is it just a case of backing up the current magnetic HD then doing a restore to the new SSD with the W7 disk?

You could run AS SSD benchmark on the mechanical drive so you have a before and after comparison :)

Would also confirm your partition is offset correctly on mechanical drive, as not sure how easy it would be to correct when restored on SSD compared to doing a fresh install.

you need to run ssd in ahci mode for best read/write speeds(in the bios),if you allready installed windows and restoring it in ide mode you need to apply a reg tweak to enable ahci or else it will blue screen

google enable ahci win7 and it will tell you how,its simple and works 100%

OK I googled the instructions for diskpart, it's in RAID mode in the bios and I had a smaller SSD in it a while back. Only used the mechanical HD to see me through till I got a larger SSD.
