So, one of you guys sent me a trust thing which I tried to respond to but I think I sent it to the noreplies address and then I couldn't find it. Welp. If that was you, it wasn't intentional. Sorry :(

It did get me thinking though. CVs, job attire and career advice are very, very common themes here on OCUK and perhaps it'd be good if we could put them all in one place.

So, does that sound like a good idea or not?

I have an interview tomorrow and the only formal-wear I own is a shawl collar dinner jacket and bow-tie. Would that be too much or should I just wear my best jeans?

Seems to be a great idea, ill post my cv up after work tonight. I seem to be struggling to get employment relevant to my education so it would be good to see if I'm underselling myself or if there are any improvements that could be made :)

Should I bother putting my modules studied on my CV? Or, just the mega interesting sounding ones? Or, just the ones directly relevant to the job in question, if that's the case?

It's not neccesarily a bad idea to include all of them, but make it short bullet points/listed points. You never know, but the person reviewing your CV at the company may have studied similar modules to you (the ones that aren't overly relevant to the position) and might request to interview you based on this.

Same thing goes for the "interests" section as well.

I try and tailor and highlight my CV based on the position I'm going for, it's all a box ticking exercise really. Key points in the JD that are mentioned, I'll highlight my experience in those first, over the rest of my experience after.

I also put on a little light-hearted section at the top of my CV in the personal statement type bit, things most people don't know about me: xxx
It is something stupid, but it gets people's attention and makes people remember your CV, which is the main thing. If you have 2 people with similar experience but they remember your CV more, you're more likely to get a call for an interview and then they tend to always ask me about it in the interview as well.

A tad gimmicky, but as I said, it's a box ticking exercise.

Love the name of the school on the linked CV "Wobbleton" haha. This is a good idea for a thread though.

I want work experience and have some savings would it be good idea to just seek internship/work experience and work for free for a while?

Isn't there already a thread...? That includes CV tips, interview advice etc. I think Burnsey did it. Apologise if it was some one else. :)

Just turn up in an RS4 and ensure your blazer covers up the mac10.

You probably shouldn't go if you don't even own a shirt and tie. Save yourself the effort.

If anyone wants any advice or is looking for a job in IT (UK Wide) feel free to drop me an email. Have lots of stuff at the moment, to give you an idea:

PHP Development in W. Yorks
C# Development in Bristol
Java - EVERYWHERE
IT and Telecoms Support - Pretty much everywhere at various levels, especially Exeter/Bristol
Technical Architecture (Java/Oracle) - Bristol
Project Management - South Wales
UX/Front End Designers - Bristol

And that's about 1/4 of my list and I'm 1 of 30 consultants in the office.

If you're looking for work I'm sure I can find you something :D

Here's mine, recruiters liked it, and it got me a decent job so I think it does the trick. It's slightly out dated now, but it gives a general idea.

Also, can we change the title to 'Curriculum Vitae' as 'CV' doesn't come up in title searches? :)

I really like this layout. Did you borrow it from somewhere or is it your own work?

e : I don't think I can change the thread title, no. Think a mod needs to do it.
