So, as lots of us just got these drives in the recent sale.

Which one did you get? The 111gb faster version or the 107gb slower version?

I bought 3, and got two of the slower ones and one faster one.

More information on the difference: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ocz-vertex-2-25nm-ssd,2867.html

My results on the differences.

didnt even realise there were 2 versions! I will check this when I get home today. Knowing my luck I will almost certainly have the slower one though...

According to the Toms article the 107GB drives model number is OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G while the 111GB ver is OCZSSD2-2VTX120G

It'd seem I have 4x of the 107gb!

i have the 111gb version, but tbh for anyone who was still on a mechanical drive they are both an nice upgrade.
Judging by the review the 'slower' 1 wins out on some things so not a complete wash.

I can see the consternation, I also bought one. BUT these drives are not last gen, they are last gen + 1. Going in with eyes wide open, I bought a cheap SSD to use as a secondary SSD for VM's instead of another HDD. They are still much faster than a mechanical and so I do not feel that a poll or major discussion is necessary.

Bought one last year, which is the 107GB version.
Bought 2 in the recent deal, both are 107GB.

All seem fast to me. :)

That is unlikely I would have thought, some 18 months ago. I expect that these drives were a basement sale partly as a result of the returns program itself. It was interesting to read though the reason being larger fewer NAND.

In retrospect, I think you've hit the nail on the head mate. They must have had thousands of these drives returned or binned from sale to avoid further misunderstandings and returns, good business sense to cut one's losses.

So is the RMA for these effected SSDs still working with OCZ?
any one going to try to RMA this for a "Better" drive?

You can't. I went to ask on OCZ's forums, they corrected their spec sheet and they consider all sales after they corrected their spec sheet as "well, you were told".

I was reading about this a few days ago but didnt post my finding but its been done now. Dont know why O.C didnt tell customers about this.

Features:-
- Capacity: 60GB
- Controller: SandForce SF-1200
- Maximum Read: 285MB/sec
- Maximum Write: 275MB/sec
- Sustained Write: 250MB/sec
Can someone explain how they can advertise those write speeds when neither benchmark is anywhere near that?

I know it says "Up to", but on a SATA2 controller with a maximum theoretical throughput of 300MB/sec surely it should be faster than 75mb.

My Caviar Black manages 90MB/sec write!

It's because that particular benchmark uses non-compressible data. Using a benchmark like ATTO you will see figures very close to the ones provided in the specs.

In reality neither benchmark is indicative of actual performance as you will be using a combination of compressible and non-compressible data in the real world.
