There seems to be a lot of negativity over the quality of the anodised banding around the edge of the iPhone 5.

Most of the criticism seems to be that it marks easily, but many people (myself included) have received the handset with marks (an example of mine below).

So, I'd like to see if there is a pattern, or if I'm just really unlucky :p

Visit http://www.chipmunk.nl/cgi-fast/applemodel.cgi, then paste your iPhone serial number in and post the results. You may also want to say if you've ordered online or picked one up I store.

I accept that the coating is fragile, so I'm not bashing that.. I'd have no issue if I caused the damage myself, but to receive something like this is unacceptable.

Post away :)

I received two iPhone 5 16GB Blacks directly from Apple on Friday.

Both are pristine, no marks or screen issues.

If I received my phone like that I would be demanding for an urgent replacement.

shambles again for Apple

Has the quality control got that bad?

why did they not keep with the same rear design of the ip4s just make it longer?

Quality control is based on sampling. If the company is happy to replace then I would prefer they do that instead of handpicking each and every one and charge them at 800 quid a piece!.

Mine's immaculate.

Does it look like the later ones are the bad ones?

Were these all made in the same factory?

16GB Black here bought from online Apple store, perfect condition on arrival and has already survived a bit of a clatter during a fall with no marks or scratches (no case).

Only complaint RE: build quality is a slight creak on the bottom left corner when squeezed, but only happens when I'm cleaning it.
