In your opinion which was the better system and why?

For me it had to be the Amstrad CPC 464, it was awesome having it's own monitor, easy to programme and i felt the games were actually better. Although i was told that nowadays it's harder to find a working tape deck for the amstrad and the spectrum keyboards can be very iffy whereas the c64's are built to last and last.

I only ever used my brothers Spectrum's (ZX81, + etc), so thats the only thing I know about or remember from those times.

C64 easily - The King

had zx81, 48k speccy, c64, bbc micro.

Mate had an amstrad, it was pants :D

real colour c64, midi sound, awesome loading graphics.

win win win :)

Technically and especially in terms of sound it should be the C64. I had a Spectrum +2a though so screw the Commodore! :p

I hate to say it but my Bro's C64 was a bit better than my CPC 464. BUT, in part, this was because i was forced to use the green screen monitor whereas the C64 could be used on any TV.

I got hooked in to sinclair through a zx81 with an additional 16kb memory box that pushed on to the rear lolz. I can't say it was better than the others as at the age I was there was no product comparison that took place. I saw it in boots the chemist when they did electrical things in those days in larger stores and something drew me towards it and my mum asked if I liked it and I was like hell yeah and I was amazed to get it for xmas or birthday as it was quite a lot of money in them days. I also later bought a thermal printer for it. Bought magazines with programs printed in them and typed them in with a friend reading them out and then saving onto tape. For some reason once used to sinclair I just progressed to a spectrum with rubber keys then later models. Think I was most impressed with ant attack which I think was on the zx81 and later I liked school dayz or something like that on spectrum.

Amstrad CPC all the way. I was rather jealous of the greater variety of games for the Speccy, but the graphics were pants. Charming in their own way, buts pants all the same. And why did the Spectrum need so many different joystick standards!? :D

Must be said that I had a lot of laughs playing with mates on both systems. I couldn't say the same for the C64. A sensible machine for snobby, rich kids. :p

My brother and I had an el cheapo console purchased from a deal on the back of a cereal packet which played nothing more grand than pong so I was mighty impressed to progress to a zx81 at the time. He later got an Atari and he has stayed more with consoles and I've stuck with PC's although I did have a Sega Megadrive for a short while.

C64 for me. I had a VIC20 and later progressed to the 64. What was so great about these machines was the dedicated chipsets for sound and graphics. I have so many fond early memories of those days.

Spectrum 48k Rubber Key all the way here. The epic arguments we had over this at secondary school were awesome! Can we have one for the Amiga and ST next?

It is so obviously the C64 and I didn't even have one. The Amstrad was crap and although games and graphics were great on the Spectrum, the sound was virtually non existent apart from those odd bleeps and buzzing noises and the colour clash was awful.

I had them all and the C64 was the best in my opinion but the Speccy was not far behind, it's just a shame that it suffered with colour clash and poor sound. Both systems had great games.

I didn't get the Amstrad till later in it's life but I thought it sucked to be honest.
