Ok so i has mucking around late last night trying to get some shots with stars in, in photo shot they all look great but when i save them in JPEG they all turn out like this......

A lot darker and less definition, should i be saving them in a different way? I changed the setting from RGB to CMYK which has helped but they are still looking very different :(

Many thanks

If you supplied the raws we could have a look and see ourselves? Possibly compression, the software you are using, the images themselves, the colour profiles, calibration... so many variables which can be eliminated via supplying the raws :)

ok hold on i will put them in my drop box and provide a link

EDIT, for three images it says its going to take an hour so i will will post it then :( (damn sky broadband!)

They are set with different colour profiles. The jpeg is sRGB and the psd is U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2.

If you convert the psd to RGB mode it exports jpegs which look the same. I just tried it.

VERY dark photo by the way, maybe adjust levels to about 0 1.25 150

i just converted them to rgb and then saved as jpeg and they came out really dark, darker than before i converted them to cmyk.

can you please tell me in detail what you did?

many thanks

You will get less definition with a JPEG, because it is a compressed format - some detail will be removed.

Not really. I save all my images at 100 quality (if using save for web) or mode 12 if using save as in PS. Image resolution is retained nicely and you'd only notice the difference if you were probably printing ultra large or saving very high res and peeping in.

As for Op's question, change the colour space to SRGB, you have it on some other one at present:

Work in SRGB, save to SRGB and you will get what you see.

Ok its saying that i am saving as sRGB

I have changed my settings

and there is no choice to convert to sRGB

Am i going mad or just missing something?

many thanks

If you choose "Save For Web" there's a check box which you need to tick which will automatically convert the image to sRGB.

I've got my camera set up to use Adobe RGB and I do all my editing in the same colour profile. Only when I'm outputting the image with the "Save For Web" option does the image get converted to sRGB.

'Save for Web' is just a quick way of getting compression right for web export. He's just shown above that the regular method of saving, which also has the profile baked in is still casing him issues.

I'm aware of that. My reason for suggesting it was because of it's simplicity. It's pretty easy to get yourself in a muddle when tinkering with colour profiles and setting in PS.

Try changing your Color Settings in Photoshop to the following:

Working Spaces:
RGB: Monitor RGB - xxxxx

Color Management Policies:
Turn all to "Off"
Tick "Ask When Opening"
Untick "Ask When Pasting"

The rest of the settings look ok.

edit: this might not work. :o
