10/09/2016 UPDATE: Please go to second page :D

Purpose: I purchased a new case and a new heatsink. Initially I built my first machine prior to joining OCUK however never created a build log and therefore decided I would this time. This rig will be used for an array of stuff from gaming, browsing, general hobbies and work.

Firstly, massive thank you to the people who have helped me out and given advise on this site so far, it's really apprecited!

Now, let's start with what the machine previously look like and the specs.

Machine026_zps2dd68696.jpg

As you can see, it was a small, poor quality, budget case, with no cable management features. But I done the best I could with it and it done the job for the time being. So hat's of to you case!!.

The specs were:

FX-4100 w/ stock HSF
Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3
4Gb RAM DDR3 @ 1333Mhz (unsure as to what brand?)
Gigabyte 7850 2Gb
OCZ Agility 3 90Gb
WD Green 750Gb
XFX 600w Semi Modular

Below I've included the link to a thread I started with the results from an OC on the stock HSF. Temps got a little too high for my liking, almost in 60's, so i stopped there and knocked it down a notch for peace of mind. :)

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18464814

Now we move on to the rebuild, the specs for this are the same as above apart from the following:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced USB3.0 Dominator Case - Black/White £83.99
1 x Thermalright HR-02 Macho CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366) £39.98
Total : £136.27 (includes shipping : £10.25).

I went for the white and black case because I intend to go for a White/Black/Blue theme.

P.S. sorry about the quality on some/most of the images I only had my Samsung S2 available:

Here's the old case all stripped down.

Machine028_zps2a3b6b0d.jpg

The mobo with the stock HSF off (much easier than I expected :)).

Machine030_zpsa78d4736.jpg

Couple more bits, the GPU and PSU out. All parts were cleaned of any dust as well as possible.

Now on to fitting the new HSF. I forgot to mention I got the HR-02 from B grade at pretty much half the price (bargain I thought) however some of you may find the next image disturbing........

Machine031_zps93bbbd06.jpg

Dun dun dun, this is how it turnt up to me well after i half cleaned it, I don't blame OCUK of course because it's B grade and minor.....I blame the owner before me haha.

Machine032_zps353154c8.jpg

Anyway this is how I got it to look after a little elbow grease and some trusty TIM cleaner - Akasa AK-TC TIM Clean CPU & Heatsink Cleaner [AK-TC] worked a treat so thanks to the guys who recomended me that ;)

Machine033_zps71a76cea.jpg

CPU before.......

Machine034_zpsd5b833b3.jpg

......CPU after.

Machine035_zps89b44614.jpg

Back in the socket and with the bracket mounted to the mobo (again easier than I expected!)

Machine036_zps6347f921.jpg

And the beasty HR-02 is on.

The new case

Machine040_zps41a3905f.jpg

voila, the bottom HDD cages removed as I only have two drives at the moment so no need for them :)

Machine041_zpsd2b8fa24.jpg

Mobo, PSU and SSD installed, plugged some cable in and gave her a test boot. She still works

Machine043_zpsa94370e4.jpg

**Note to self** In future, plug this in before putting the mobo in or HSF on otherwise you will curse and sweat for at least 10 mins

Machine050_zps38d54dad.jpg

An injury!! cut my thumb when putting my HDD in the quick release tray. Don't ask how, not even I can explain

Machine051_zps24adcdb9.jpg

Slowy getting there

Machine055_zps4d30cfdb.jpg

The back so far. Cable management was so much easier in this case as there was so much more room to play with.

Machine058_zps52367c23.jpg

Ok so the above is where I am currently at, which I think is so far so good for a days work on the weekend.

It's not finished just yet, I'm looking to complete it by adding the following:

Braided cables - Blue (also to sort out the final cable management, hence the mess coming through at the bottom right)
Some interior lighting - undecided
Side window (More research required)
Alternative area to mount SSD & HDD to the remove cages

Testing

I'll also include some screenshots of the difference in cooling and show some benchmarks below here:

New temps under the HR-02 with same settings as shown in my other thread. looks good now idles between 8-12*C and under 100% load its between 38-42*C with 42 being max after 45 mins on Prime95 what do you guys reckon? I might bump it up to 4.6Ghz

A nice case makes a hell of a difference doesn't it :)

Out of interest, which cables do you plan to braid in blue? That braiding's going to make a lot of difference to the colour inside....

@Tattysnuc Tell me about it :D

I plan to braid pretty much all of the cables you see out front. Sata cables, case extensions, fans I'll try myself think I'll buy some pre-braided extensions for the 24 pin mobo and gpu, bit cautious on them. Not sure if it's noticeable but the PSU splits on the 6/8 pin for GPU so there's two and I only have one card at the moment so that will look tidier with only one extension.

Is the fan idling all the time? Assume fan 1 is GPU?
fan 0 = 754 - 755rpm
fan 1 = 1117 - 3571rpm

Mine on open work top is silent.
Thermalright HR-02

Good question doyll. I'm not too sure how to manage my fan speeds.

The above screenshot is under full load. When i'm home tonight I'll take one when idle. I'm pretty sure the fan barely spins when idle, is this right?

HR-02 has TY-140 series fan (<1300rpm max.) so is 600 - 1300rpm. I would set idle as low as you can, but watch motherboard chip temps! You may want rpm to be higher than CPU needs in order to keep motherboard cool.

Mine idle 660-700rpm. This keeps all things nice.

Machine on idle.

A little concerning fan0 is no longer listed so I'm assuming this means it is not spinning?.

I did notice on the test build when i booted it up it was starting and stopping. How do i set it to idle at a specific speed?.

I was wondering why my machine was hovering at the time......

Am I able to set my idle speed on the fan through the BIOS or will I need to get a fan controller for this?.

sorted it!. My cpu fan was set to auto in the BIOS so I changed it to manual and selected PWM it now idles on roughly 650 and under load its arround 1050 rpm. I've noticed that running prime95 with this amendment means my CPU is running cooler. after 30 mins of prime its running at 37C as opposed to my previous post's......Result!

Boo.

I thought you'd made the worlds first overclocked Vaccuum cleaner

:D

Afraid not :(

Haha think I'll make that my rigs theme tune......Im tempted to change my build log to project airwolf since the current name is pants!

Need to crack on with the braiding one night this week!
