Samsung 840 vs 840 Pro

Is there much of a difference between the two? I get get a non-pro 250GB for £20 more than the 128GB Pro and wasn't sure if there would be much of a difference between the two.

faster speeds and better mlc nand vs tlc nand

but still a decent drive

What wazza said, I've bought 3 non-pros and not had a single issue. The speed diff between them and the pros you wouldn't notice anyway in real life

Me and a friend upgraded our pc at the same time, we went for similar PCs, he went for the normal 840 and left his system at stock speeds, and i went for the pro and overclocked mine, when it comes to loading times i cant see any difference between ours. I wish i had gone for the normal one and got double the space as i filled my 120gb in no time.

Had a std 840/250Gig for about 8 weeks. My old system only supports SATAII anyway so I thought I'd buy the bigger slower drive. Have to say I've been very pleased with the upgrade and performance increase breathed a little into my system. (Price has dropped by £10 since I bought mine, so even better value now)

Firmware & sofware updates have all been trouble free, so far...

thx good to know, I guess once u got those fast 500meg+ read speeds its all super fast and good.

99% of home users will only ever notice a difference in ssd speed with a noticeable difference in 4kb random reads, sequentials are something most programs don't use much, and are pretty in benchmarks but mean smeg all.

4kb random read is literally request/4kb read/request/read, over and over, they can't overlap so its entirely dictated by the latency of contacting the drive and the drive latency, this has been as low as ssd tech can get for 2+ years, there won't be noticeable ssd speed improvements without a completely brand new tech. I'd get the cheapest sata 3 drive.

Outside of a benchmark a 840 pro, or a Vertex 3, Crucial C300 and up, very very little real world difference.
