DGM ips-2701wph power brick has gone pop.

Well, I've had my DGM for a day less than four weeks (arrived on 05.02.13) and I've just heard a loud pop... "pop" is a rather appropriate word, it sound just like a dent in a pop bottle springing back into place. I suspect it's the power brick as it has an acrid smell, where as the monitor doesn't.

Save going to the expense of unnecessarily shipping the screen back to OcUK, does anyone know of a power brick that'd be compatible with the screen or where I would be able to get one of a higher quality than the one DGM supplies?

I feel I must say at this point, assuming it's not the screen itself that's gone pop, that so far I can't fault the monitor. The colours are vibrant, there are no dead pixels (at least non that I can find), there's no back light bleed and the whites are really white. If I had to find fault, I'd say that the blacks are fairly poor but it's only really noticeable in a dark room or when the image is particularly dark.

Someone mentioned in another thread that their power supply going also damaged the monitor. He had a replacement power supply but the monitor still wouldn't power on.

I'm leaning towards getting a refund and spending a bit extra to get a Dell. I think the quality will be worth paying a little bit more for. Again, I can't fault the monitor but the brick going pop does make me wonder.

Doctor have you touched the volume on the monitor at all? Did you have it turned up to 100 or was it left at default - 50?

This is nothing but guess work but i have had this monitor for a while now and have not had this issue. I have the volume constantly at 0. Its a long shot but i just wondered whether all the people that had this issue had the sound level at default or maybe even up higher.

I tested the speakers once, realised that they were utter poop and went back to using my headphones (which are plugged into my soundcard). So, they were set to about fiftyish for all of 30 secondss and the back to zero since, with the sound cable unplugged.

[EDIT] 666 post... I think I might listen to a bit of Iron Maiden to celebrate this truly moments occasion.

My power brick went after 10 days of ownership, returned it and bought a BenQ XL2411T.

my first power brick worked all of 0 seconds
was dead on arrival but since they replaced it the monitor has been fine but i do dread it dying again was a bother to get it replaced not sure if these psus overheat sounds stupid but i get tempted to build a cooling rig for it using spare parts

I suddenly lost power to my DGM IPS 2701 and the power brick was making a strange ticking/whining noise. The green power led on the brick had also gone off. I told OcUK and they replaced the brick. I connected the new brick to the monitor and... nothing except for the same ticking/whining noise. No green power led either. So I unplugged the power connector from the monitor and the noise stopped and the green power led on the brick came on. So it turned out to be a fault with the monitor which OcUK subsequently replaced.

I did some Googling for a replacement brick. I did find some but I can't remember the site. I do remember that they cost about £50 though.

i would gladly pay maybe £20 for a spare psu for inbetween RMA just incase maybe i should ask ocuk if they would sell me one

surely any power brick that outputs the same voltage and amps would suffice?

can just rewire the plug on the end

I'm not so good at wiring and it uses a non standardised connection and oc would refuse my rma if it was missing the connection to the monitor although it would be fun to argue

The same happened with my first brick; it lasted about 6 weeks before going bang.
The replacement that I received straight from DGM has been fine ever since - it also runs a lot cooler than the original.

I have thought about getting a third party one as back up but the price seems a bit steep, although the quality should be better and if it's a higher amperage then it would run cooler

Me and a mate both bought this monitor on the same day. His Power brick has just failed and I've noticed that mine runs extremely hot... hot enough to actually burn my foot if I rest it on it.

Should I be concerned?

Is it likely to fail? Could it be a fire hazard?

Do I have to wait for it to completely fail before returning it for a refund?

This has just happened to my brick/DGM 27". Not sure if its taken the monitor with it or not but i heard a loud pop like described.

Should i go through ocuk though? I don't fancy paying the cost to return a heavy monitor. How long did it take? Currently on a crappy TN 1680x1050 panel and its making my eyes bleed. Its painful.

The annoying thing is this monitor was perfect. No dead pixels, no backlight, perfect. Now its roulette time on an RMA. Did they send you a refurb or a brand new panel? Ordered from ocuk on the 7 Dec, 2012.

upto you,i dealt direct with lg,few days it took for me

don't return the monitor try a new power brick first,mine was fine just the adaptor had blown

(EDIT) the river wanted me to return whole monitor for new one,screw that

LG? I thought the monitor was DGM? Did DGM send you out a new brick? Got details of how i can get one?
