Ever since I built this PC I've been having random flickers. It lasts less than a second so it's hard to capture but it's basically like white with some lines, usually not even all over screen and it happens fast. Like this at 0:29 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5amSM8GxSyA
It comes and goes, sometimes takes hours or not at all in days, sometimes few in a row and I thought oh well and haven't been trying to fix it until this happened:
1499126

Sound and everything in background worked and I couldn't see or get out from this.
I am running latest drivers and catalyst and also have latest MSI afterburner installed and should note it also happened on last 3 versions of drivers.

What I've done is disconnected DVI cable and tried HDMI and flicker happened again after a while. I've tried onboard graphics card with mine out and it didn't happen, I also play xbox 360 and ps3 on this monitor and no flickering there so I know it's not cables or monitor itself.

What I've done now is reduced stock clocks which are core: 1050 mhz and memory: 1375 mhz (I have MSI 7970 Twin frozr 3 BE, which is OCed out of box) to 800 and 925 and haven't had a flicker in hours so that might be it.
But now I'm worried if I'm getting flickers on stock settings is the card still bad, should I rma it, keep raising settings until I get no flickers, what to do?

P.S. Thing from picture hasn't happened again and it only happened once so might have been something else but I don't know..

I would definitely say it the GPU, I would raise a RMA and return the card to the retailer and show them the pic above and video (if they have a support forum).

Hello and welcome :) - almost forgot !

Both my previous 7970 and current 7970 do this. It appeared more frequently with older drivers, not so bad with 13.5, I think its related to 2d clock speed change.

i had this when i used the ghz bios on my reference 7970, going back to the original bios stopped it happening at all.

Sorry OP just realised you have msi afterburner installed. Are you using unofficial overclocking method at all? That has been known to cause flickering if you don't disable powerplay in the config.

If you steps 1-12 in this guide here and the flickering still occurs then assume your gpu is faulty.

I'm not using unofficial overclocking method, checked cfg just in case and it's 0.
I don't think it's triggered by flash for me, it happens while watching a movie, just browsing, chatting etc.. I made profile in afteburner where I downclocked and it's not happening anymore at all, I just switch to profile 1(with stock clocks) when gaming. Been playing for few hours and haven't noticed flicker in game, maybe there was but I mistook it for ingame thing, paying very close attention now to check if it happens again.

One more thing, I was playing Trine and noticed after finishing my gpu was at like 70c and my fan curve is set 1c=1% so fan was at 70+%. Is that bad?

Are you using firefox?

What browser are you using?

Chrome but it did the same on IE. Google had some flash content thing on their homepage and it would cause what the OP screen shows. Only way to fix is to restart. Also happens on certain steam store pages which have flash content.

Can you link me to it, see if it affects me. I have one gpu that flickers which i believe is faulty and one which doesn't. Saying that though the gpu i think is faulty produce stripey line crashes randomly. :D

Yes, also would like faulty site to do some testing, so far it appears random for me, but I might be doing same things over and over again so I'm unaware if it's cause by something qq

Firefox has been known to cause this issue. I had it and since i switched to chrome the issue vanished. I reported it to the AMD rep Thracks. AMD are aware of it but the issues lie in the Mozilla camp apparently so until they fix it not much you can do afaik.

I do have firefox open most of time so it could be it, still don't know why it fixes itself when I underclock. Gonna download chrome and use it for a while and see if it happens again.

Edit: So I was just in Chrome and opened a youtube video and flicker happened, flash issue? But then again it did happen when I didn't have browser open and was watching a movie hm
