Chromecast and Hifi Amp?

Hi all

I'm thinking of getting a Chromecast when released in the UK, and I want to have it connected to my HiFI just for Google Music no video.....so my plan was to get below to extract just the audio then send to my Hifi....should this work and sound ok?

I guess no one knows as no one has a chromecast.......I think it should work....?.....

I have one. It's connected to one of the HDMI ports on my Onkyo amp.

I use Google Play music and it works great, you get the album art displayed on the telly or I can turn the telly off and just hear the sound via the amp.

Cool thanks for info....now just have to worry about adapter to the stereo amp as it has no HDMI....

I honestly can't see it not working, but buy it from somewhere that lets you send it back just in case. The Chromecast might have some weird limitation where it won't boot without being able to see a TV on the other end of the HDMI connector.

Update on this, I have bought the little HDMI audio extractor and hoping it will be delivered before the weekend for a test....

I use something similar which I connect to my Raspberry Pi, although mine has HDMI passthrough, so I can either use it for video, or when I just want to play music to my stereo speakers without having to have the TV on. I'm also wondering if it has some limitation like Caged mentioned, where it won't work unless it can detect the TV. If that does turn out to be the case you could return and get one of these, which is what I use. Got mine from a Chinese seller, for around £23 IIRC. Hopefully though, the Chromecast doesn't have that limitation and will work fine with the one you've bought.

Cool cheers mate, I like the one I bought because it says it does not require an extra power supply but we will see how it goes.....

Interested to see how you get on with this, im using a Chromecast connected to my AV amp but you also love to use one on my HiFi system as well.

Woooo works great!! No set-up just took out of TV and plugged in and it was ready to go!! Super cheap wireless audio!

I'm sure my CD deck would sound better as a source but sounds pretty damn good to me!!
