Hi Guys

I'm looking to replace my Dell 24" with a new monitor, the 24" has served me well but I now want to upgrade it to a 27" screen

I have been looking at the following Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27" Widescreen LED Monitor though after some research it seems there has been a major fault with lighting bleeding through the left hand side of the screen, after digging deeper and looking on other forums one of which had a post on the subject very in depth but was 185 pages long with users complaining about this issue.

Do we know if this issue is fixed, don't really want to place my order and find I have an issue. From what I can see most issues were around the April/May product dates

I dont think the issues have been fixed as people are still complaining about them. If you decided to go for the U2713HM then be prepared to return them until you get a good one. Not great considering how much you are paying.

Other popluar options are the Asus PB278Q or Viewsonic VP2770.
Both great screens but have a higher price tage.

I just made the jump up to 1440p and it looks gorgeous. Spent the whole of last night playing Tomb Raider and staring at Lara Croft :D

Thanks for the replies, I would also like to play with Lura Croft all night but need to sort out this monitor first

My PC is used mainly for gaming some movie watching

I might have to go for the Asus PB278Q

Not all U2713HMs suffer from backlight bleeding issues, some do. It's the same story for pretty much every monitor out there including the ASUS PB278Q. The only model that's in any way comparable that has much better quality control is the Samsung S27B970D/971D. The ViewSonic VP2770 also seems to have somewhat tighter quality control, but not quite as good as the Samsung. Even then the Samsung, which I'm sure you could discount for many reasons including price, is not guaranteed to be completely free from backlight bleed.

If you don't game watch films much then from what I've read this Liyama is a good choice - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-105-IY

But as I do play games etc I have gone for the Asus.

A fine choice, although the PB278Q is really not any better when it comes to the 'backlight bleed lottery' compared to the Dell. And just FYI it's Iiyama (two 'i's :)).

Well I thought just to cover all the bases I would call Dell directly, after being transferred to 5 different departments I explained my question and was put on hold while he went to check what the current revision is on production to fix the light bleeding issue, he has just come back and believe it or not he said the following
Place the order your supplier they might have a new revision in stock if they don't and you have the bleeding light problem then you can RMA it back to Dell and have a replacement screen sent out you can do this as many times as required until you get a screen that does not have this fault

Do you have to pay for the postage to send in back each time you RMA or do they pick it up ?

Last time I had to rma hardware to dell they just swapped it out for a replacement in one go, same day. But it has been a few years now, I don`t buy Dell anymore just to many problems and a lot of time and hard work trying to sort it out.

You mean playing with Lara all night.:D

Friend of mine has decided to go with the Asus he is really pleased with it, said it looks fantastic

So maybe he has made my mind up for me

Im in two minds about the Dell U2713HM as ive read a lot of horror stories,

Im considering the below for gaming only
Asus PB278Q
BENQ XL2720T
LG 27EA83

Has anyone in the last week or so bought the Dell 27" HM model and if so where there any issues

I think you just have to take your chances to see if you get a good one and deal with rma issues or go with another monitor. Not much else you can do at the moment.

You could always wait until they fix the issues but who knows when that will be.

I've just received my 2nd asus 29"widescreen and it's also got dead pixels and they even have a sticker
Saying QC checked lol going back will maybe try the 27"asus PB278Q or the LG 27EA83 as it' a good overclocker

Quality control does not seem to be very good with Asus an Dell an few other manufactures makes it a lottery what you end up with I will be buying 27" Veiwsonic VP2770 still could have problems but hope my chances of getting a good one will be higher.
