Check out the Kitguru Review, it beats all other R280X for performance out the box and when you overclock this bad boy, it is right on the heels of GTX 780, but at £200 less makes this card an absolute bargain, read the review for yourselves:-

OcUK will be first with stock and potentially the only Etailor with stock for a while as we were first to order in the UK. :)

Got a decent overclock out of the core @ only 1.28v - 1281mhz, not bad. Looks a nice card i must say.

Looks really nice but isn't this just a re-badged 7970? Quite expensive if that's so, and no TruAudio or games with it I understand?

I like the way they show the 7970 on one slide matching the 280, then proceed to omit it from every other test. There may be a reason for that as I haven't actually read the review but :p

It is not expensive when you compare it to the 7970 Ghz edition cards that it compares with on performance.

Nice looking card, just wondering if it will fit in my Lian Li V355.

Nope, with the Toxic Sapphire made the effort to build a fresh card from the ground up, this can easily be seen by looking at the product photos and by the performance and OC this card is easily achieving.

I think at £269 its a BLOODY SILLY price for something which is so quick, its cheaper than the cheapest GTX 770 and destroys pretty much every GTX 770 and is right on the heels of GTX 780.

BUT YES, R280X are re-badged HD 7970's / HD 7970 GHz cards in general, very easy to tell on some brands such as Asus Matrix Platinum, all they did there was flash the BIOS and change the box. Other cards like Asus R280X DC2/TOP are a little different as they use the new DC2 cooler.

Well the 7970 OC was trading punches with 780 already to be fair.

However, according to Anandtech the 780 still rules so far in BF3 (and Bioshock: Infinite): http://www.anandtech.com/show/7406/the-sapphire-r9-280x-toxic-review/3

Hopefully the 290 will be a gamechanger and really shake the market up :)

I wouldn't pay much attention at all to anands BF3 bench. They use a part of the single player campaign that is so undemanding that it favours Nvidia's gpu boost. As a result in anand's benches the Nvidia cards always win by a landslide. You look around elsewhere and results will be much closer or maybe even favour equivalent AMD cards.

You aren't serious are you?

1282 / 1762 is a very good overclock, i wouldn't be surprised if with a bit more time and fine tuning it went past 1300 / 1800.

Things will be more in favour of AMD when BF4 comes out (with Mantle) too, right?

Wondering if they'll bundle it with 290X? That would ameliorate the 'sticker shock' that I'm sure we're gonna have to brace for LOL :D

I am serious i even have Ryan from Anand confirming their benchmarking procedure. I've posted about it many times before.

I meant the theory behind nVidia cards performing better in percentage terms due to boost in a 'non-demanding' scene.

I call it a theory but that is a stretch.
