Free Shipping Suggestion

As a member that has over 100 posts (and registered over a year), I am entitled to free shipping, normal price of £9.

However if I were to place an order on a Friday and wanted it delivered on the Saturday, or if I placed the order mid week but wanted the order delivered on a Saturday due to a specific reason (no one at home for example) I would have to pay the full Saturday delivery price of £14.75.

Would it not be possible to offer the eligible forum members a Saturday delivery price of £5.75? (a reduction of the normal £9 delivery charge from the usual cost of £14.75)

The Saturday cost is a premium cost and does cost us more. Unfortunately we could not offer this as a discount as we would be making too much of a lost unfortunately. Nice idea though. :)

is there any option for a discounted Saturday rate for those of us with free postage 5ub?

Saturday is my day off every week and would love to have my gear delivered on a Sat but the price is extremely prohibitive

That suggests that the standard del for non-qualifying members is a revenue stream then?

Interesting.

Unfortunately not.

We make a loss on the free shipping already, but the Saturday service would be way too much. The premium of it really doesn't make it worth it for us unfortunately and wouldn't be viable.

I don't see how it would be any different though? If you lose £9 on the free shipping weekdays, why is it different to lose £9 on a £20 service? You've still lost £9?

Not that i'd be interested in sat shipping, but trying to grasp the logic...

Because the sat del charges already cost more than OcUK charge the customer. Sat del already lose ocuk money. Now the suggestion by the OP would mean adding a further discount, increasing the amount lost to the point where it's not viable.

Personally, in my view, you want free shipping you can wait. If you don't then pay the premium.

I agree with that view tbh, which is the real reason they don't need to extend it to sat tbh (which is good business; charge for urgency)

Huh?

Ok I understand that it costs more and that you lose more on the Saturday delivery - but could you not offer some discount to the point where you don't loose too much - even say charging £9 for the Saturday delivery for eligible forum members.

I didn't suggest the idea because I want items urgently, it was more for the convenience of receiving deliveries on a Saturday.

I have the same issue as the OP unfortunately, work turn a blind eye to the odd package but eventually my luck will run out there. I can see why sat delivery would be prohibitively expense to offer for free, but what about discounting the UPS access point for those who qualify for free shipping? I cant see there being a huge cost price difference between that and dpd next day.

I'm of the view that if you can't be in unless a Saturday that's your problem not OCUK's. Try to ask for free shipping any day of the week elsewhere and see how far you get :p

totally agree, I feel lucky to get free shipping, show me a shop that would do the same with such a great community.

At the end of the day ocuk make a loss offering free shipping to loyal members, if any thing we should be thanking them they could easily stop it.

Loads of places offer free shipping these days and you don't even have to contribute on their forums or community, and if they ship with Royal Mail then a lot of the time it will turn up on a Saturday as well. Free shipping isn't that special.

Also happy enough that they offer free shipping for us members:D

I'm not saying its not a good offer, it is, though its certainly not unique.

It's also not complete benevolance from the ocuk either, it is at least partly a commercial decision to increase loyalty and build a community more likely to buy here then elsewhere.

I can certainly say that if the offer was a little more flexible, there would be more chance of impulse buys, without worrying which neighbour got the delivery, or whether some scrote has found the safe place.

How can you make a loss on shipping? Any business builds shipping costs into their margin (at net). You mean you make less of a profit surely.

Saturday delivery is also not really a premium service, it costs more or less the same (to a business) as next day delivery. £13.50 for Saturday delivery is extortionate.
