Free Shipping Suggestion

It may be worth mentioning that one of your competitors who I qualify for free postage with as well does this already, I had a GPU delivered on a Saturday via DPD for £5.75 with the free postage discount 2 weeks ago.

This is why we can't have nice things... OCUK try their best and give forum members free shipping and then they want more... Simply can't win.

If you're in that much of a hurry a) order quicker or b) pay the price. Free shipping is a nice gesture by OCUK considering they don't have to do it.

One train of thought would be to give a reduced discount, such as £5 off a Saturday for forum members, allowing OcUK to make more money than if that same person used the weekday shipping option, and still more money than if they were given the weekday discount on a weekend service.

However, if forum members are encouraged to use that option, OcUK will no doubt lose money on Saturday shipping as more people will use it but less actual money would come in.

Leave it as it is I say, don't rock the boat :p

No, this is why OcUK continue to be the best. By listening to suggestions and ideas from customers, taking them on board and feeding back directly

If the answer is a flat 'no chance' then fair enough but you dont get anything if you dont ask and I think the question is pretty sensible given that a major competitor already does it.

But as 5UB has stated it doesn't suit OcUK's business model which is a fair enough point and puts the matter to bed.

How can you make a loss on shipping? Any business builds shipping costs into their margin (at net). You mean you make less of a profit surely.

Saturday delivery is also not really a premium service, it costs more or less the same (to a business) as next day delivery. £13.50 for Saturday delivery is extortionate.

No affiliation to ocuk but I'm en eCommerce Manager

Postage isn't built in to margin's. It's an entirely separate line on the P&L.

Made up figures here. Next day may cost them £3.09 and they charge £3.49 so make a slight profit on postage but specialist deliveries such as Sat does cost considerably more and as said they charge less than it actually costs them so make a loss on it. Depends on the courier on costs and obviously volume.

People nowadays do expect free delivery because fo the likes of Amazon etc. They can do it as their pick, pack and dispatch rates are a lot smaller than small and medium business due to efficiency and the rates they get from couriers due to volume.

Doing free postage for a small and medium business wipes a large chunk off the bottom line unless selling something small and easy. Also when you have a large range of products in many different shapes and sizes it makes it harder. And that's without considering margins.
