Went to the gym for my first stronglifts session today. Did alright on the squats and bench, not sold on the barbell row, think I may have been doing the wrong style. Will get one of the trainers to help with form next time I go.
Maybe it's just me, but as a sports science graduate I'm willing to give it a go. Obviously taken in tandem with form advice here and elsewhere I might get some benefit out of it
Toasteh, hope you enjoy it! I've been doing stronglifts now since the end of Jan and it's been great. Lifting far more than I've ever done in the past and it's a much better routine.
I found that after ~2 weeks the pain pretty much disappeared and only became the dull 'I know my muscles have worked' pain which I quite enjoy.
Turns out they were relaying the floor at the gym tonight so all the free weights were crammed into half the usual space. didn't want to faff about trying to learn deads and ohp when it was that busy so just did loads of curlzz instead. better than nothing i guess
2nd SL sesh today. squats were ok, ohp was alright, last set i could feel it in my arms. not sold on deads, never tried them before so guess that's just a form thing to work on.
squats 5x5 22.5kg
ohp 5x5 20kg
deads 1x5 20kg, didn't add plates as I wanted to get the form right from the rack first. next B sesh I will work on form more and try to start using 5kg plates.
squats 5x5 25kg
bench 5x5 22.5kg
row 5x5 15kg used a barbell cos i wasnt sold on form, was hoping there'd be someone about but no dice. will try pendlay next time.
squats 5x5 27.5kg, big boy plates next sesh woo
ohp 5x5 22.5kg, arms started to go on the last set again
deads 1x5 20kg, 2x530kg just hte bar to get the form right, then 2 sets with the plates to nail it. feelsgoodman.jpeg
I'd say doing deadlifts at less than 60kg is pretty useless. The plates are too small meaning that the bar must be too far down, unless you're doing rack pulls?
