ASUS is preparing to cut prices of its motherboards by 5-10%, according a Taiwan-based newspaper. The Economic Daily News (translated) reports that the company is preparing these 5-10% retail price-cuts across its lineup, in a bid to compete better with second-best (by volume) Gigabyte, trailed closely by ASRock, and MSI. The paper observes that the cuts could impact Gigabyte's sales in China, making it fall short of its 5.5-6 million units shipped goal, down to 5.4 million, in Q3 2014. Its annual target of 21.5 million could drop to 20 million. ASUS shipped 10.4 million motherboards in the first half (Q1 and Q2) of 2014, and aims to ship 22.1 million units by the year-end.

So I did little comparison of two boards on B85 Chip almost identical price
On the left Asus on the right Gigabyte
Asus B85M-G Intel B85 £55.99 vs Gigabyte B85M-D3H£56.99

3 Audio jacks vs 6 audio jacks
1 Chassis Fan connector vs 3 x system fan headers
1 Crash free bios Vs 1 bios + 1 backup bios
1 Pci-E + 2 Pci vs 2 PCI E + 2 Pci (CrossFireX)
No heatsink vs Heatsink on transistors
Average RMA vs Uk based good RMA

Note: on OC website it says Gigabyte have 6x usb 2.0 and 2x usb 3.0 it’s actually 8x usb 2 and 4x usb 3 same as with Asus board

Even with 10% off I would go for Gigabyte

^We have that Gigabyte, it's a cracking little board. Full set of overclocking options in the bios and overclocked my 4670K to 4.4Ghz with ease. I only paid £48 for it as well!!

Keep the prices as they are and sort out the pathetic RMA service you have, that would be a better deal Asus.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat, its gone up again!! Now at £360, just as i'm about to buy :( thats £25 increase since the first batch, for the first time in quite a while and many thousands spent i think i 'm going to take my business elsewhere, those Harribo just aren't worth that much!

@OCUK, what are you playin at?? Supply and demand i know but c'mon guys, sort it out.

Yup noticed this ever since the Asus S boards went retail and non exclusive the price went up..... and then the price went up again today.

Even the gigabyte/4790k bundle went up by a few quid.

I did inform ocuk staff about Asus giving 10% off theirs mobos but Asus told Ocuk today are not aware of this.

So not sure if this link is anything genuine.

Either way the competition is fierce and sadly cheaper yes even those Asus bundles!

I think for the first time in a long time ill be going else where.

They maybe be cutting prices, but (As Gibbo has mentioned in another thread) Alex Salmond bad influence on the pound is making imports more expensive. :<

Yes have seen the "bad news" thread, would like to know why other etailers prices have not gone up and i would imagine ocuk are the biggest out there yet the prices are going north??

I guess when they make their next order they will have to adjust their prices higher

As ocuk is one of the larger etailers i imainge they have to reorder more frequently and therefore the price increase has affected us sooner rather than later

Other Etailors are also not offering 290X at £269.99, they cannot all be won.

Rampage price has increased for two reasons, cost in GBP has gone up considerable due to exchange rates and demand is way beyond supply, put the two together and it causes quite a jump in price.

Our first 2-3 batches on Rampage V were purchased with dollars we got at much better rates.

Our next batch of Rampage V are not only purchased at a much higher GBP price because of exchange rates but we have also had to source them from alternative suppliers who are milking the pricing due to supply and demand.

As such it is a simple formula, our cost increases, so does our resell. We've sold 100+ Rampage V now and instead of just sitting for Pre-order for weeks and keeping customers waiting and never have stock, we go searching for stock from all our sources and as such will grab stock wherever we can so that we fulfil all our backorders and also have stock.

OcUK now has a large volume en-route, which will give us stock whereas our competitors will all be out of stock. The price we pay as such though is much higher due to the above but having stock is far more important than being £25 cheaper on a £300+ product.

Thanks for the post Gibbo and I fully understand the reasons, we all know on here that OCUK's prices can be a little higher than other e-tailers and does it put people off?? NO, like me and many others we come to you for your fantastic service, without doubt #1 in the UK.
So with that in mind and knowing that a new platform release will have delays and availability problems wouldn't it of been better to put an extra £10 on the board price at launch, you would still of sold out and your margins would have been higher enabling you to stick to the same price once availability etc had diminished, this in the customers viewpoint would look far better than an considerable increase, in the grand scheme of things a board increase of £25 is peanuts when your looking at at high end £1300+ X99 system(5960etc), but that is not the point!!
