Samsung 840 / 840 EVO susceptible to flash read speed degradation over time

Firmware update due October 15th apparently.

Also, allegedly, the 850 EVO isn't far away now either and features Samsung's latest TLC V-NAND, which double wafer yields leading to even lower cost SSDs. Hoping for a close to £100 500GB SSD in the 850 EVO range!

Thread is kinda ironic given the big thread on here was started nearly 2 weeks before the one on overclock.net and is the original source of the reports as far as I can tell.

anyone used to tool to rewrite the data

Yep, I gave it a go on my 250 GB 840 Evo.
Before I was getting a minimum transfer rate of 30MB/sec.
After using the tool my minimum is 310MB/sec.
2 weeks later minimum is 300MB/sec.
So it does work, but the point is we should not have to do this.
Hopefully the fix, when it comes will solve this problem permanently.

That's for sharing this, I recently bought a 250gb 840 Evo as my boot drive. Can't say I have noticed this myself, but I haven't paid that much attention to it; will have a check.

Hopefully the update sorts this out.

If you have recently got an 840 EVO you should be fine for the moment as it is only with old data that you start to get the degradation.

The fix will be out in a couple of days time and it looks like it will do the trick and fix the drive.

Ah that's what happens when you get multiple threads on the same issue. People like me somehow miss the main one ;)
