In short myself and 8 Pack have our favourites when it comes to having the highest quality PSU, we both are very happy with the Superflower Leadex models, EVGA P series are also exceptional as they too are built by Superflower. Another firm favourite is the Antec HCP 1300W Platinum and of course the Corsair 1500i is a great unit but the price is very high and in short the EVGA 1600W Superflower units are superior. When it comes to these power supplies Superflower and EVGA are giving the best quality but also at a lower price point than competing brands.

Summary
In this area if you want quality and at a good value for money price both EVGA and Superflower are kings here, the engineering quality is undeniable and they are fairly priced. Also again Antec quality is unquestionable. Also anything that is built by Seasonic should also be fine, XFX for example.
Lower cost PSU that are still built using quality internals
This is a list of PSU's suitable for those who are building a gaming PC but cannot quite afford a quality PSU, this is where it becomes quite a mindfield as there are so many 80+ rated PSU's but the ratings are not a guarantee of quality components.
For example here is an 80+ Gold certified PSU I'd not touch with a barge pole, its built to a price point and as such we do not recommend it and it would whine like crazy potentially as well.

Summary
Please bear in mind this is a personal recommendation by myself and what me and 8 Pack would use in our own home systems, recommend to friends or use on our overclocking attempts. We might work for OcUK but when it comes to power supplies we get very personal as we've come across so many units that have all the labels, certifications and marketings to make them sound good, OcUK even sells many such PSU's but we'd not touch them. Above are our recommendations on getting the best build quality for your money and without a doubt both Superflower and Antec are our favourites. For those who are concerned how Superflower only goes upto 1300W, well in the new year we shall have models going upto 2000W and Titanium specification.
So the above is what we would use personally and our first port of call is always Superflower, they have simply out shown all other brands when it comes to using the highest quality components and this shows in reviews that do ripple test, Superflower are normally always King for lowest ripple results, this is why some users have reported Superflower units reducing or eliminating coil whine for them. But bear in mind some cards are beyond help no matter what PSU you use.
When it comes to power supplies, remember if your building a high-end gaming PC that is like a sports car engine and anyone here old enough and lucky enough will know highly strung engines only run to their full potential and optimal ability when fuelled on premium fuels such as Shell Vpower/Nitro for example, run a high performance car on supermarket fuel and they can run terrible.
A high performance PC is no different, the power source needs to be of very high quality to ensure not only stable running but to try and keep noise levels to a minimum, especially electrical noise.
Of course the PSU cannot cure cards with coilwhine beyond help, but in short if your buying Superflower OEM built power supplies or Antec and then going with say a graphics card that is built around reducing coilwhine you will be very unlucky if you experience any whine.
So if your building a gaming PC then please do not try to save money on buying a PSU with cheap internals, it is simply not a good idea and our recommendations are as per above.
In short anything Superflower HX and Leadex are very high-end internally. Antec are also a good shout and also Seasonic OEM built units as well. I personally will not recommend anything else, though we do sell many other models so you are free to chose but you asked for my recommendation and well you have it.

- Coilwhine is not a fault, it is how electricial devices work and any card can suffer it, particular high-end cards, such as dual GPU solutions
- OcUK stance on coilwhine is if you have a quality PSU and the card has audible coilwhine on an open test bench, we will replace it.
- Does 970 suffer from whine more so than other cards, well return rates cannot be conclusive of this as we are seeing nothing unusual in return rates but the majority of returns are related to whine issues.
- Whether a PSU is 80+ Gold does not necessarily mean its a good quality PSU, it is down to the internal components used and frequencies etc.

Summary on premium Power Supplies
In short myself and 8 Pack have our favourites when it comes to having the highest quality PSU, we both are very happy with the Superflower Leadex models, EVGA P series are also exceptional as they too are built by Superflower. Another firm favourite is the Antec HCP 1300W Platinum and of course the Corsair 1500i is a great unit but the price is very high and in short the EVGA 1600W Superflower units are superior. In this area if you want quality and at a good value for money price both EVGA and Superflower are kings here, the engineering quality is undeniable and they are fairly priced. Also again Antec quality is unquestionable. Also anything that is built by Seasonic should also be fine, XFX for example.
Lower cost PSU that are still built using quality internals
This is a list of PSU's suitable for those who are building a gaming PC but cannot quite afford a quality PSU, this is where it becomes quite a mindfield as there are so many 80+ rated PSU's but the ratings are not a guarantee of quality components.
For example here is an 80+ Gold certified PSU I'd not touch with a barge pole, its built to a price point and as such we do not recommend it and it would whine like crazy potentially as well.

Summary
Please bear in mind this is a personal recommendation by myself and what me and 8 Pack would use in our own home systems, recommend to friends or use on our overclocking attempts. We might work for OcUK but when it comes to power supplies we get very personal as we've come across so many units that have all the labels, certifications and marketings to make them sound good, OcUK even sells many such PSU's but we'd not touch them. Above are our recommendations on getting the best build quality for your money and without a doubt both Superflower and Antec are our favourites. For those who are concerned how Superflower only goes upto 1300W, well in the new year we shall have models going upto 2000W and Titanium specification.
So the above is what we would use personally and our first port of call is always Superflower, they have simply out shown all other brands when it comes to using the highest quality components and this shows in reviews that do ripple test, Superflower are normally always King for lowest ripple results, this is why some users have reported Superflower units reducing or eliminating coil whine for them. But bear in mind some cards are beyond help no matter what PSU you use.
When it comes to power supplies, remember if your building a high-end gaming PC that is like a sports car engine and anyone here old enough and lucky enough will know highly strung engines only run to their full potential and optimal ability when fuelled on premium fuels such as Shell Vpower/Nitro for example, run a high performance car on supermarket fuel and they can run terrible.
A high performance PC is no different, the power source needs to be of very high quality to ensure not only stable running but to try and keep noise levels to a minimum, especially electrical noise.
Of course the PSU cannot cure cards with coilwhine beyond help, but in short if your buying Superflower OEM built power supplies or Antec and then going with say a graphics card that is built around reducing coilwhine you will be very unlucky if you experience any whine.
So if your building a gaming PC then please do not try to save money on buying a PSU with cheap internals, it is simply not a good idea and our recommendations are as per above.
In short anything Superflower HX and Leadex are very high-end internally. Antec are also a good shout and also Seasonic OEM built units as well. I personally will not recommend anything else, though we do sell many other models so you are free to chose but you asked for my recommendation and well you have it.
