I've been shortlisted for a chargehand position at the warehouse I work at and I have been asked to produce a presentation lasting 5-7 minutes consisting of an introduction of myself, why I have applied for the position and why I think I would be the best candidate. This is to be presented in front of a few supervisors/managers and other candidates.

I've never had to do this before so I have no idea on what to present. I was thinking maybe two minutes on each of the three subjects. I was wondering if you guys had any advice and tips on what I should talk about.

It would be helpful if there was a job description.

I don't know what a charge hand would do...but they will be seeing what you'll bring to the company in terms of new ideas and how your previous experience fits in.

Usually I would also see what competitors are up to to see what you can do differently. Shows that you have done research etc.

Don't write everything on your slides..
Only write key points and then elaborate on each one at a time.
PowerPoint is a tool for aiding your presentation not doing it for you.

Keep it simple and practice till you can do it without even looking at the screen. Only then will you come across well :)

A worker, ranking below a foreman, in charge of others

Is there no where to escape presentations

Forgot about the job description... I wasn't provided with one as it was more of a informal invitation to apply. My supervisor basically walked up to me and told me we have some chargehand jobs opening up if you want to apply hand your CV and cover letter in.

On paper I work as a warehouse operative, in reality I'm an order picker :p.

Wtf is a charge hand?

Anyway... Your experience, your rapport with other members of staff, your knowledge of the system, where do you see yourself in x number of years, why you are the best person for the post (usp).

Your basically interviewing yourself, so sell yourself.. Goodluck.

This seems a bit tight but we don't know what kind of charge hand you are looking to be. I had to do online tests that were difficult and when I asked other people to have a go at the practice tests they did terrible which made me feel better. I got the job though - best of luck to you too.

The person below a supervisor. I'd basically be making sure other people are doing their job properly when supervisor's aren't around

There was no title other than chargehand followed by different sections in the warehouse.

I guess I would be looking to be a warehouse chargehand.

To become a Charge Hand one must acquire one of the old wind-up 'comedy' Hand Buzzer things you can get at Joke Shops (Do not be tempted to get a squirty lapel flower, this will only make you look foolish!), shake hands with everyone at the presentation whilst wearing it they will be so impressed by your japery they will have no option but to offer you the position. You will also gain 'Legendary' Status at the Company.

6 and 6 rule, as far as possible :p No more than 6 lines per slide, no more than 6 words per line.

Something I have trouble sticking to due to the nature of my job, but generally a good rule.

Think you answered your own question there. Unless I'm missing the point of being given the task of producing a presentation on yourself, why you have applied for the position and why you think you're the best candidate?

Hey,

Just wondering - who do you think might be the best person to make the call on what to present at a job interview at the place you already work at, in front of people you already know, and for a job description that nobody else seems to have heard of?

Is that really necessary? If it isn't something he's done, then it's logical to ask for advice from people who might have more experience. Even something as simple as "Think about what the people interviewing you are looking for in the role, and then say how you have those qualities" is a useful tip which he might not have considered if he isn't used to such presentations. OP doesn't appear to be asking for step by step instructions on what to write - just some general advice.
