I've been shortlisted for a chargehand position at the warehouse I work at and I have been asked to produce a presentation lasting 5-7 minutes consisting of an introduction of myself, why I have applied for the position and why I think I would be the best candidate. This is to be presented in front of a few supervisors/managers and other candidates.

I've never had to do this before so I have no idea on what to present. I was thinking maybe two minutes on each of the three subjects. I was wondering if you guys had any advice and tips on what I should talk about.

It would be helpful if there was a job description.

I don't know what a charge hand would do...but they will be seeing what you'll bring to the company in terms of new ideas and how your previous experience fits in.

Usually I would also see what competitors are up to to see what you can do differently. Shows that you have done research etc.

Forgot about the job description... I wasn't provided with one as it was more of a informal invitation to apply. My supervisor basically walked up to me and told me we have some chargehand jobs opening up if you want to apply hand your CV and cover letter in.

On paper I work as a warehouse operative, in reality I'm an order picker :p.

Wtf is a charge hand?

The person below a supervisor. I'd basically be making sure other people are doing their job properly when supervisor's aren't around

This seems a bit tight but we don't know what kind of charge hand you are looking to be.

There was no title other than chargehand followed by different sections in the warehouse.

I guess I would be looking to be a warehouse chargehand.

Apparently not.

Presenting slideware to get a warehouse charge hand role is madness.

Indeed it is. I think it's more to do with HR insisting on formalities rather than what the supervisors on the warehouse floor want.

Although it does partially make sense as standing infront of a crowd and giving a small presentation would help assess my ability to address a crowd which would be required for the position.

Think you answered your own question there. Unless I'm missing the point of being given the task of producing a presentation on yourself, why you have applied for the position and why you think you're the best candidate?

I guess I'm just stumped because what they are asking me to produce I already have in the form of a cover letter and I will repeat again during the one-on-one interview. It seems unnecessary to repeat it for a third time.

Promotion at work

I recently posted a thread asking for advice on a presentation for a interview for a few internal promotions.

I ended up getting one of the jobs! I will be a transport chargehand starting Monday. I will start to receive training within the next couple of weeks.

Got a big £7k pay rise along with it. Not bad for a young'un.

EDIT: Now doesn't that make my post look stupid?
