Hi,

I need help, any one managed to get this unit TP-Link TD-W9980 to work with Sky Fibre. Thinking of sending the unit back, been trying for a week to get this connected:mad:. I can get a solid light but not internet. Used WireShark for U/N and pass but cant get this dam thing on the net. Any suggestions on a replacement if its a no go.

Thanks

Doesn't work as it doesn't support the authentication method used by Sky, Billion 8800NL does work or you can use a white Openreach modem combined with a separate router.

Any 3rd party router or modem/router combo you want to use with Sky Fibre HAS to support MER (MAC Encapsulated Routing) - this limits you to down to the like of the Asus range and the Billion range and a few other ones but you cant use any TPLink stuff buddy (last time I checked anyway)

Thanks for that, its on its way back. I will look at the Billion and Asus. So I take it the Asus DSL-AC68U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit ADSL/VDSL Modem Router would work ok. Its a bit steep in price but as they say you get what you pay for. Whats the thoughts on the Billion compared to the Asus? Thanks guys.

Watch yourself with the Asus DSL-AC68U as many many people are having issues with it. The Billion seems the better option. I'm holding off for now until there is more choice.

TP Link had a change of heart recently and have released a beta firmware with support for MER. All you need to do when setting up the 9980 is use the quick setup, choose VSDL other and then put in VLAN ID 101. Then simply go to WAN settings and put in your sky username and password and click enable MER.

Just stumbled across this via google - think i'll purchase one and see how I get on. Fed up with SR102 crap wireless OR trying to hook up old asus router and using that for wireless - just want a one box solution.

any pointers to the Beta firmware?

top man - will give it a go shortly.

all done and working fine - thanks again. Wireless signal is so much better around the house. One box solution was what I was after.

Only small thing is that was was syncing around 70mb yesterday, but with new router installed, it's only syncing around 60mb today. I know line training is usually in operation during first few weeks so will keep an eye on it. see if it changes

anyone been able to tweak settings to maximise speed?

AS I say with sky router it was around 71/20, with tplink it's 60/20. Any way of getting back to around 71

I don't think you can do any tweaking on fibre services. You need to see if a heavier level of interleaving has been applied as that can contribute to a speed drop.

Chances are DLM has been active on your line booyaka, ask sky to perform DLM reset.

DLM on fibre services are not turned off, everyday at around 12pm your connection will report to the DLM service on your line with the days error count/dropout count. The DLM will then compare the results to what it deems to be a stable connection + the DLM profile you are currently on (Sky is set to Openreach Standard which is 10 dropouts in a 24 period with no more than 1 error every minute). Any changes that happen will be done between the early hours to minimize impact to the end user (normally between 5am and 6am)

If a problem is found the DLM will re-profile your line to a lower speed with higher interleaving values to try and produce a stable line. You need a certain period of stable up-time to pass before the DLM will begin to increase speed and tweak your settings to a better situation. Asking for a DLM reset will reset your connection to the maximum speed before DLM had made any changes. This however requires an engineer to attend your cabinet and actually reset it from there, it cannot be done remotely. Speak to your ISP and you should be able to get the speed back.

Sky are going to be hard pushed to ask BTOR to do a DLM reset when he's still achieving 60 down from 70, seems like a lot of hassle and waste of effort to get it done for the sake of 10 meg drop, which will in turn sort itself out anyway. In my opinion

I'm not desperate for the extra bit, just wondering why it was less that original. it's crept up slightly today, current rate 61,546 from 62,276.

Will leave it alone for now as it's solid so far. Will keep the reset in mind if it greatly changes! thanks

If you are on the Pro Fibre Unlimited package I have found it easy to get a DLM reset. I guess it depends what CS you deal with at the time.
