Pretty impressive spec, says it has a 100,000 mile service interval too! :D

Performance: 0-60mph 3.9 seconds
Standing quarter mile: 12.0 seconds (est)

Tempting? If only I had £60k

sounds like a lot of crap to me, a v8 returning 60mpg and 100,000 mile services, haha, the makers must build them at night with portable suns

Ahh, its a Turbo diesel.

“On the main straight the Ferrari will be doing 7,000 revs and it will scream past. When the Iceni passes the engine revolutions are about 4,000rpm yet it will be doing the same speed, 140mph."

So all the pubtalk torque figures, whilst the Ferrari might possibly have half the torque, due to the gearing, it has twice the mechanical gearing advantage.

The only proof of the cars ability would be to take it to Le Mans and do the 24hour endurance race.

Audi seemed to do ok with a tubo diesel this year and Peugeot has one for next year, I reckon in a couple of years anyone who wants to be competitive will have to go turbo diesel.

Will be interesting to see this up against the Aston and Corvette in endurance races.

even if it fulfils MOST of it's bragging rights....£60k??

the only major problem i can think of it a diesel lump is very heavy so the handling will be affected.
by how much is anyones guess until it's put down some track times.

That mpg figure is totally misleading - it's like saying that my car delivers 120mpg*

*at 60mph, on a trailing throttle, downhill......with a following wind.

I'll bet the actual combined figure is more like 20.

well no it's not actually.
later in the article they state.
“A GT race lasts two hours which uses 100 litres of petrol in the first 45 minutes and then when there is a driver change another 100 litres is added. With our car we race with 45 litres and never need to fill up.”

therfore it's significantly more economical that it's competition.

its all bull, i mean look at the photos section, one of the photos is watermarked with pistonheads logos.

Surely very competitive pricing if you compare it to a similar spec Aston Martin, Ferrari, Porsche, etc.

Assuming you meant that £60k sounds expensive, personally for that performance and spec list for what you get £60k sounds a good deal.

actually i meant even if it can only do MOST of what it says it's a relative bargain IMHO.

Definately I would say, :) .

Edit:

really good article and interview here, a small snippet from said article:-

Quote from chief designer Phill Bevan;-

So while a Ferrari 360 does 8-9mpg during a race, the Iceni manages a rather more impressive 48mpg. "We can have as much fun as someone with a Porsche GT3 at 18 per cent of the cost, so environmentalists can't complain, especially as there are no carbon emissions," adds Bevan.

It is easy to live with mpg figures like that, but supercars have a reputation for costing a fortune to run and being less than practical. Bevan explains that the General Motors diesel engine has its first service at 100,000 miles and the gearbox is sealed for life. "The stainless steel chassis has a 100-year guarantee, while the Kevlar carbon fibre body means that it's a car that you can hand down to your grandchildren," he says.

using an EIGHT!!! (i'm still impressed with that one, ) speed sequential shifter to overcome the diesels natural narrow powerband i see no reason to doubt the performance and every reason to believe it can be quite economical.
now HOW economical is something i couldn't guess at but it will be noticeably "less juicy" than all of it's rivals that's for sure.

taken from their forums.
if they succeed this will be simply amazing.
"Lands-End to John o'Groats economy drive using one tank of fuel in the road car"

/awaits further news.
