Mother is looking at a t-mobile contract with a charge for wap at the above cost. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what a typical webpage would be in terms on kbs so that we can work out around how much browsing will cost her.

On my HTC Hero, using WiFi, so no image optimisation used.

Loaded browser, Google, searched for overclockers forum, clicked forum link, then Mobile Phone, then this thread.

492kb.

Second time, 90k, cached maybe.
Third time, 72k.

Clicked OverClockers logo at the top, page loaded, netcounter says - 641kb.

If you plan to use data, i'd get a bolt on.

Jesus. 0.73p X 492 kb = 359.16 . So is that £3.59 just to load a site. Seems ridiculous? The site actually descibes the 0.73p per KB as "mobile internet calls". I take it they are reffering to WAP use?

Internet day pass on pay monthly plans
If you are a pay as you go customer or a pay monthly customer who doesn't have internet included in your plan or added to your account as a booster, a internet day pass costs up to £1 a day. We'll automatically charge 0.73p per KB each day (midnight to midnight) when you use internet until you hit £1 a day and then we won't charge you any more.

0.73p... not £0.73 ;)

If you don't have a web package or bolt-on, expect to get massive bills if you use your phone for web on the move.

Turning off images helps, but if you use it a lot it mounts up, fast.

there is £1 cap per day for internet on t-mobile but make sure the cap is activated.

I was once assume that its automatically activated and ended up getting charged over 100 quid, managed to get all the money back though :)
