*sigh*

Okay, signed upto o2's Access service about 4 months ago. Did not do any research etc. Soon found myself trapped into contract. Months went by and I start to research ways to get out of contract. Just such bad speeds and pings (today and yesterday was 0.25MB!). I discovered ISPA and complained last Monday. Got a phone call from o2 at 7:30pm on the Thursday but I was out. They then called on Friday (im not in from like 6:30 to 10) at 8:25pm and left a message saying they would phone back later tonight or tommorow or over the next few days. I let them off with Halloween on the Saturday and also Sunday (maybe not classed as a working day). Monday came and no phone call. Phoned up today and spoke to a person that honestly had no clue. He was shocked that the Access package had speed issues and declared I had to pay 6 months of Broadband to leave. I told him I had contacted the ISPA and he said "None of that is on record, only an email you sent to us on 12th October."

Well that is completely wrong. I have sent about 4 emails since 12th October for a start. Hung up shortly after.

Now then, afew days ago TalkTalk phone me up because I typed in my phone number and postcode into their thingy. Supposedly that counts as an inquiry. Anyway, i told him i was with 02 and he said that did not matter. I said I would need a MAC code and he then said no I did not. I just say yes and I would be hooked upto Talk Talk in afew days..... WTF!

Now the Talk Talk checker said i could get 14MB (only AOL and TT at my exchange)... tempting. But at an 18 month contract, it's just too long and same thing could happen again as with o2.

*sigh*

So, what are my options? Do I fill in another complaint with the ISPA and hope i get someone with half a braincell or somehow magically get transferred to Talk Talk?

And if you've been unsatisfied with the services of O2 (understandable, the Access package has a poor reputation) quite why you'd be considering TalkTalk or AOL is beyond comprehension.

Well I actually used to be on AOL's LLU 24MB service before you were forced to buy the landline from them etc. It was constant 1.4Mb/s download and pings were always constant at any time (about 35ms 24/7 to o2's 40ms offpeak). I left because people bashed AOL and thought a decent 8MB service would suit me better.

I am actually sad i left AOL now. Sure their customer service is bad (not as bad as o2 mind you), but the line was rock solid.

If you're on an exchange TalkTalk have LLUed, you wouldn't need a MAC key. They'd grab your voice and ADSL service and O2 would then come after you for the remaining 6 months.

I'm actually gonna switch to TalkTalk Pro I think. Some speedtests from the service.

I guess i'll pay o2 if they come knocking.

good luck, have similar problems whereby i binned o2 and their still billing me saying i didn't ring them to cancel the service and suprise suprise they have no record of me calling.

keeping in mind they never seem to speak to each other when they pass you through departments let alone manage to update the records when u speak to them i can't say im surpised.

Emailed ISPA again yesterday. Hoping for something this time.

My only real concern with Talk Talk's LLU is that it is fabulous just now but whos to say it'll be good in 6 months with all the new subscribers constantly downloading.

Another day of being capped at 40k.....

I would speak to the ISPA more, there are many reports of people being let go from their access contracts with no penalties. Why pay when you don't need to?

Good news! :D

Email from o2 today. They offered me 3 months free or option to get a MAC code and no termination fee. Just guess what i took. ;)

If Talk Talk don't need the MAC as you are leaving BT phone line, maybe you need to phone up and send a recorded letter to O2 clarifying cancel. Just to make sure they are aware you have left them under this clause.

I can imagine they see the MAC hasn't been utilised so carry on billing you after assuming you took the free three months. Just think of worst case scenario :)
