0laying Starfield and loading takes an age!

Just purchased Starfield and all the loading screens between areas are taking ages. I think I have a pretty good set up, but as my birthday is coming up any ideas on the best way to upgrade to quicken these loading times?

Here is my basic set up.

Game is installed onto a 2TB SSD.
• be quiet! Pure Power 11 500W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply
• Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) 3600 MHz AMD Ryzen Tuned DDR4 Memory Dual Kit

• AMD Ryzen 5 3600

• MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI Motherboard

• MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB MECH OC Graphics
I am thinking maybe get another 2 sticks of memory to bring it up to 32gb, or should I replace what I have? I can spend about £150 on upgrades.

I don't have the game, so I'm not sure what to suggest. Can you run the game in a window with task manager open and report back what is @ 100% while you're waiting?

More memory might help but the game is new and may need some patches to resolve release issues.

I've read that the game runs best on an NVMe drive.

Is that what you have it installed on?

I'm running it on an NVMe Gen 4 drive and it loads really fast.

You need all the NVMe speed you can get, mine is 5000 and it loads quite quickly, I think that may be a good thing to check.

If you are already on a fast M.2 drive then I wouldn't know in all honestly, your system looks like it should cope.

Do you monitor your FPS when you play? It might sound random but you don't limit your FPS do you to say 30? Or have Radeon chill on that could limit your FPS during load screens? I'm not entirely sure if that is how Radeon chill works.

I only ask as I installed fallout 4 last weekend, just to try a Bethesda game and my load times were minutes! And it was linked to my FPS being low during load screens. Downloaded a mod that upped my FPS cap and then transition load times were back to sub 10secs.

As it's built on the same engine thought it was worth mentioning.

I actually get about 120fps, on medium settings. Graphics quality is always good, it's just everytime you go into a new area it loads it up, some say it only takes them a couple of seconds, but for me it can take a minute or two.

I'm thinking of going down the NVMe route, then later I might update the CPU.

It's installed on a SATA drive for me but the loading into a new area only takes a few seconds.

You are using Ryzen 3600, 16GB of 3600MHz RAM and a 5700XT GPU and getting 120FPS in medium? A 6800XT medium @1080p gives 85fps or 115FPS with FSR2.
A 7900XT gives 120FPS at 1080p medium.

I'm on a 3700X, 3060ti, 32gb of RAM and I'm getting drops to the low 40's in the first hour of play with medium settings and a couple of things on low.

I dread to think what an actual city would be like.

Not a chance he's getting 120fps on that setup. :cry:

I have my copy installed on a PC that has both NVMe and Sata SSD's. I am currently moving the installation from the NVMe to the Sata drive and will get back in a minute or two and tell you what happens.....

Well, surprisingly, it made not a lot of difference. Instead of being a few seconds, it was maybe ten.
What I did notice is that the VRAM it was using was very close to 16GB (total system). My guess is that it may be your memory. Although you have enough, it may well be windows messing about because you are getting close to the limit. I would check out your memory usage during the game.

I have a few suggestions. Update your bios. Update your chipset drivers. Uninstall any programs that are not needed. Check task manager startup disable any programs you don’t need. I would also make changes to your swap file. Instead of system managed. I would make it fixed 32GB. Make sure trim is working on your drive. When you mean ages how long in seconds.

I’ve got Starfield installed on an NVMe and it all loads up pretty quickly. Loading between environments is negligible - barely a second or two. Just posting this for info!
