The iPhone dev team has achieved 1.1.3 jailbreak on both the iPhone AND the iPod Touch. The jailbreak solution has NOT been released to the public, and according to them will not be until February when the SDK releases, that way Apple doesn't get to see the method, and break it before the SDK releases - jailbreak + SDK = awesome app functionality, for that free price we've all come to love for iPhone applications (but always remember - if you like an app, DONATE!!)

Not long now :)

I'm not exactly up to date with this whole Jailbreak malarky- it's a way of unlocking the OS of the iPhone/iTouch so you can run lots of different apps and have custom backdrops/icons?

What kind of apps can you run on an iTouch then? Are we allowed to discuss them on here? :)

Goody Goody! Not got my iphone yet should have it in a few weeks when i have done my reading on unlocking :D!

The location Finder in 1.1.3 looks good, saves you using Navizon...

Hope its not too long till its unlockable in 1.1.3 :D

There's really not a lot to read.

Look at the sticky, get an iPhone and follow it step by step.

As the jailbreak can be wiped via a restore in iTunes then it'd be better to get one now, and you can always update to 1.1.3 when a hack is released.

If you get one with 1.1.3 out of the box then you might not be able to jailbreak it in the first place.. well, you would but it would involve downgrading to 1.1.2 which defeats the point of waiting.

So if I buy the iPhone handset for £269, could I unlock it to work on O2 pay as you go (or is it O2 contract only)? How do I get the pay as you go sim card in (if it can be done), its a sealed unit isn't it?

No, it's removable, there is a slot on the top.

Yes you can unlock it, providing it is on 1.1.2 firmware.

Have a look at the Sticky.
