Forgive my ignorances but why would I want to swap the 7970 for a 7950?
Also what the max RAM I can upgrade to on that motherboard? And yeah it can be OTT by all means as long as it does not go over 1.2k :)

Thanks for the help guys.

The difference between a 7950 and a 7970 is negligable given the £80 price difference, even less so when you overclock them.

I would think 32GB's is the max at the moment with 4x8gb sticks. Stick to 16gb (2x8), as you rarely need any more than that and quad channel can sometimes limit overclocks on Z77.

Might want to add an aftermarket cooler and perhaps swap the keyboard for a fully mechanical one :)
Maybe a 750-850w psu given the sli/xfire board capability. Depends if you think dual cards might be an option in the future.

The WF 7970 is great and all, but it's voltage locked afaik. Might as well save a bit, grab a 7950 and OC it to roughly the same level.

Id put in the 3770K, with the console refresh around the corner the hyper threading might come in usefull for games in the next couple of years and would still come in under budget on the builds shown so far.

Agreed. Your budget can easily allow for a i7 and you never know, over the next few years games may be more demanding and use more threads.

So far this is what I plan on buying
1 x Corsair Obsidian 550D Quiet Midi Tower Case - Black £119.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x Gigabyte Osmium Mechanical Gaming Keyboard £109.99
1 x XFX 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £94.99
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Silver (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £66.98
1 x Saitek Cyborg R.A.T. 5 5600 DPI Gaming Mouse £49.99
1 x Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24B5ST SATA ReWriter - Black (OEM) £14.99
7970 or the 7950,still unsure on which one to pick.
i5-3570k or the i7...I think I will go for the i7.

couple of years ago i would have said, watercooling and the most overclockable gear you can find.

Now i'd say a K class Intel CPU, 2 GPU's and a 2560*1440 monitor. With 1.2G on the line atleast you'll get a smile out of it. Though in a couple of months new GPU's are coming out, so w8 if you've got any sense.

So this is my final build that I have set my heart on,any last advise before I buy up things?

Yeah get a 7950 and clock to the same performance level give or take a couple of fps :p
The Gigabyte 7970 is voltage locked, so you're stuck with what you get and will have paid £80 more for the virtually the same thing.

Either way, there isn't much between the two.

If you don't want to OC, then go for it :)

The ram is only slightly taller(1cm) than low profile, but it wont interfere with your cooler.
