Have been looking at the 1.9 non-turbo 206 diesel and was curious to know how they perform. I currently have a 1.4 clio (75 BHP).

I do a lot of motorway miles, hence diesel. :)

I have a punto hgt multijet- which essentially has an uprated jtd engine, i have found to be great so far -owned from 6 months old from october- economy on mine averages around 50+ with it going up to 60mpg on motorway journeys and down to 42mpg if driven 'progressively' ;) .

you have to get a turbo, you HAVE too.

I bought a 1.9D (not turbo) and I regretted it. I did a lot of motorway miles too at the time, and it was awful.

Make sure it's either a HDI, or a TD.

They don't perform. Do not buy.

Buy a HDi instead.

What he said+There is no need to buy something that slow with bad resale value. You must get the HDI. People comment that my 2.0 HDI is the fast derv they have driven that isn't a 2.5 monster anyway! My 2.0 is the 110bhp one but its in the xantia which is a fair old weight to lug about. HDI in the 206 should offer reasonable performance ie more than enough for you average joe!

I wouldn't do it. Non turbo diesels put out the power of a petrol not much more than half their size. Imagine a 1 litre petrol lawnmower engine trying to pull along a 206, then remove it's ability to rev, and you have the 1.9 diesel!

Plus, nobody will buy it from you when the time comes to sell. HDi, as said already, would be a much better bet.

My gf has a 1.9 non turbo diesel (Clio). My god, it's awful.

Ok, it gets form A to B, but really. It's slower than her old 1.4 Clio (Petrol), it uses more fuel, noisy, it's just awful. I can't see the Pug version being much better tbh.

Spot on, and this is talking from an ex 1.9D 206 owner. Do not get a non turbo one.

My 1.3 Escort used near enough exactly the same amount of fuel, and was if any thing, quicker.

Awful engine

Thats a much more modern 16v HDi unit though :p

maybe so but he didnt say anywhere he wanted an old one

the 2 litre HDI lump does 0-60 in 11.1 seconds iirc which isnt too bad really and the driving postition isnt that awful once you get it adjusted right (takes ages mind you) ride is pretty good too imo

Depends on the 2.0 lump though, there's diffierent HDi units :p

There's the older 8v units which were: 1.4 75bhp, 2.0 90bhp, 2.0 (with intercooler) 110bhp, 2.2 136bhp.

Then there's the newer 16v units: 1.4 92bhp, 1.6 92bhp, 1.6 (with intercooler) 110bhp, 2.0 138bhp. There's also a 6cyl 2.7 HDi one too

are you talking about diesels?

the 2 litre lump in the 206 is 90bhp iirc and the only diesels in the 206 now are the 110bhp 1.6 and the 90bhp 2 litre (or it may just be thye 1.6 not sure)

I was talking about the HDi's yes. I'm not sure of the 206, but they're probably using the intercooled and non-intercooled 1.6 HDi engines. But I know they used to use the 1.4 and 2.0 (non intercooled) versions.

Not that it matters anyway, still a dirty oil burner :p

from what i know all the 1.6 diesels in the 206 are 110bhp, just the GTI one has stiffer suspension etc

dirty oil burner eh? i would swap my 1.6 petrol for the 1.6 diesel anyday:D
