What happens ?

I assume if you have the same messaging apps installed such as Whatsapp and WeChat etc... that both devices will alert you of an incoming message even if you're on the one device and using it ?

Are there any other downsides or anything I've not thought of ?

I have 1 account across 3 devices, but I don't use any instant messaging type apps. Does WhatsApp require you to sign in?

If so, just don't sign in on the other devices, or don't install the app on them.

I'm usually constantly signed in on certain apps :)

Hmmm..... I guess it's nothing that can't be fixed if it becomes annoying !!

I use IM Pro+ and if it's signed in on multiple devices, it simply alerts on all of them.

Whatsapp is tied to the phone number of the device rather than the android account as far as I know, so you'll only receive notifications on the device it was sent to.

Yeah but it also acts a bit weird.
E.g... my friend changed their SIM and I didn't enter their new details in my phone, yet I could still message them through whatsapp using the previous set-up.

So I guess once the account IS set up and tied to a number then it might also be possible to set up via a username afterwards ? I dunno :)

I couldn't get whatsapp work accross both my handsets in sync, i ended up with 2 profiles which confused a lot of people as it's tied to number as Tom said. In the end i just disabled it on one handset. Gtalk works to both with ease though.

And Whatsapp only seems to allow you to use one device with the same number. You activate it on another device with the same number and it gets disabled.

I found this to be the case when I switched sim cards but my number hadnt yet to be ported. I would get all massages to my phone (With new sim) but anyone I replied to would get the new number instead of the old. I would guess once it is set up with 1 number it will attach the number to the phone and if you want to update it you would need to wipe it and do it again.
