I am sure that I have seen a device that you can use one mice and one keyboard for two computers but I can't remember what they are called?

Did I dream this, if not does anyone know what they are called and has anyone used one?

Are they any good do you get lag as it has to go through the device?

its called a KVM, you can get mechanical or electronic switching ones, in my experience the Belkin electronic ones are rubbish!

Agreed - Belkin are just unreliable.

See if you can hunt down an Aten one - we use them at work without any problems.

Am I missing something? How does a piece of software allow you to physically connect a keyboard and a mouse to two computers?

PK!

One set as the server, one is the client.

When the server registers the mouse going in the direction of the client screen (you set this up on the config screen), it then starts showing the mouse on the client screen rather than the server.

Only drawback is that the PCs need to be networked.
However a crossover cable is cheaper than a KVM switch :)

It also only works if you can see both screens - so no using the software on PCs that arent in the same room. You'd need VNC or similar for that to let you remote control it.

Hope it helps.

No, its slightly different.

VNC lets you use One keyboard, mouse and monitor for controlling two or more pcs (either with or without a large distance between them)
This program lets you use one mouse and keyboard for multiple PCs if you physically have two screens.

Think of it like a 2 display linked desktop, on 2 pcs, rather than just one PC with two monitors.
