well my friend bought a LG 32" LCD on boxing day and it broke earlier this week. was bought from a big high street shop, they i was speaking to him yesterday and they are refusing to replace it, instead they are only going to repair it.

surely this is not allowed, if it is under a year old does it not qualify for a replacement?

Nope, repair is fine.

If they can't repair it, or it's uneconomical to repair it, then he gets a replacement.

Some companies just replace because it's easier and better for the customer, but it's not a right.

Most retail stores offer a replacement within 28 days else you have to get it repaired.
If it's a certain company I'm thinking of, then the guarantee / repair service details will be written on the reciept wallet surely?

Tell him to use a UV pen to put his post-code on the TV. That way he'll be able to tell if they've just fobbed him off with a re-conditioned or showroom set as a replacement.

I hate it when they do this. The repaired items never seem to last as long or give the same feel of quality out.

I had it with a Sony TV, after the repair the thing was barely out of the shop. The sides were scratched with all the dismantlement. As soon as the warranty went the thing went kaput and ended up down the dump.

Not much you can do really
