Preface: Looking into getting a 1Series (118i or M125i)

Anyone care to offer their 2c on the myriad option available? The ones that catch me are the rear camera and park assist, but try as I may I cannot find any video reviewing these functions on anything other than the 5/7 series.

Just overwhelmed by the options and would like the opinions of the experienced :)

Not sure why you are looking for them on such a small car? They are easy to park, you would be better spending the money on something worth having. Parking sensors are standard and they are all you will ever need to park.

I'm torn between the 1 series or an A Class, with the A class sensors and camera are standard, rear sensor is the only standard on the 1 series.

I'm considering the autopark feature as I haven't been driving long and it would greatly speed up my parking in timely/non confident situations.

There are better options to spend your money on. Your parking will improve with time (or at least, you'd better hope so if you're an inexperienced driver getting into a brand new car), go with options that you'll get benefit from in the long-run.

M135I, I'm assuming, there's quite a stark difference in the running costs with these variants, so I think you should choose your engine before looking at options. I also find the m135's are typically better equipped than the lesser models too.

M125I

Moving from the 2L 4 cylinder to the 3L 6 cylinder makes the car wholy uninsurable for me :)

There is no such thing as an M125i - they only do an M135i (and now an M140i). The rest of the engines in the range come only in the regular trim levels, of which the highest is M Sport. This is not an M125i, it's a 125i M Sport.

The park assist function is a fun gimmick which you'll never miss, the camera is reasonably useful. However these are options to add once you've ticked the essential boxes - things like Cruise, Pro Nav and Sport Automatic Transmission.

The insurance thing seems bizarre. Unless you are like 18 years old or something then I can't imagine anything is 'wholly uninsurable' and if you are 18 years old or something then spending 25 thousand quid on a 4 cylinder hatchback is the sort of thing you'll regret.... in about 2 years time when you fancy something else :p

125i M Sport << Yes this one. Apologies I've been looking at them only for a couple days ;)

I can get the 125i M Sport for circa 900 a year social+commute.

M135i - 2300.

I'm not a young driver. But 0 years experience.

Why would you spend so much money on a first car if you have zero experience?

Mid 20's and a fortunate financial position. I've got a city commute that honestly I do not wanna do in a 2nd hand focus or astra. Plus for the personal enjoyment?

Cruise, Pro Nav, bluetooth streaming, Sports Auto, heated seats, auto folding mirrors, heated leather and xenons are the essentials.

As for anything else, have a browse through the whole list and see if there's anything you like and you're willing to pay the extra for.

I'm not up-to-date with BMW 1 Series options, but I'd consider Active Cruise, HUD, electric memory seats, uprated stereo and an iPhone cradle.

It's worth noting that, unless it's changed very recently, parking sensors are NOT standard on the 1 series.

The park assist stuff is - as said - a gimmick.

Forget autopark. It's gash. Every car I've been in that had it (C class, E class, M class, Lexus IS) all failed miserably unless the conditions in and around the space were absolutely as the engineers intended - which they rarely are. You also have to crawl by the spaces very slowly for the sensors to detect the size properly, which means you'll just hold up traffic and annoy everyone around you.

Save your money and just practice parallel parking.

It comes with cruise, no hud, electric seats are a 1k options for no pulleys and only two settings, no 4 way lumbar on this model. I don't know if the default stereo is bad. Android user ;)

This is the kind of feedback I was looking for from someone with/had autopark. I'll see if I can try a model at the dealers which has it :)

I'm amazed cruise control, folding mirrors, and Bluetooth streaming aren't standard!

No dual-zone climate control either, just manual AC.

You can spec dipping exterior passenger mirror, it's included with the folding mirrors as a £275 option. Insane.

Bluetooth streaming is. Hardly any BMW's seem to have folding mirrors, or people never bother to fold them in.

Auto dimming rear view mirror isn't standard on the 1 series either (unless it changed recently).
