1 week, 2 weeks - where would you go on your own?

If I had the money, and someone to go with, I'd go to Belgium. Always wanted to go, mainly for the beer.

What would you do if you had a couple of weeks off soon and fancied 'getting away from it all'?

A few choices would be:

A small/quiet island in the maldives.
Pacific microneasia/polyneasia
An off the beaten track kind of holiday, Something like the Trans Siberian Express. A Silk Road hiking holiday, hiking round Butan or some such thing.

Thailand, for the simple fact it has everything.

You want a perfect beach to chill out on? no problem

You want to ride an Elephant through a forest miles away from civilisation? no problem

Want to party 24/7? no problem

Endless list of things to do....or not do :)

My last few days in Thailand I spent riding an Elephant (you could give them a wash in the river too) followed by chilling out on an floating hotel on the river kwai, was fantastic.
Also got dragged up river on a bamboo raft by a powered boat then left to drift down the river..so so peacefull :)

Yes but it Thailand and so Cliché

Every man and his dog goes there. With over 100,000 UK visitors alone per year, let alone all the other nations. You may as well go to Blackpool, you will probably see less English people.

I would still stick with my suggestion of Peru. Amazing sights to see.

manu pichu, nazca lines, lake titicaca, Inca trail etc. Also there is the Amazon rainforest, with plenty of stuff you can do there from nature reserves to white water rafting. Then all round the north west, there are are some of the best beaches in the world.

Peru has 60+k, yes its a lot bigger but no doubt most visitors will be going to the same place, so Cliché :(
