My sister is asking me about these tablets that are all over the 'bay from mother china.

10.2" Andriod 2.1 with Arm CPU's seem good value but are they?

She'd like to buy 2 for her daughters for Xmas for surfing/facebook...

Obviously she'd like to buy them iPads but are they 'enough' for your average user?

Don't bother, they are cheap resistant touch screens which are awful and take ages to type anything and leave you mad. They are unlikely to be flash enabled even when 2.2 is released. Also unlikely to be any good ones till march.

from what acidhell has said and a quick google it seems he's right, there unresponsive due to resistive screens instead of capacitive and freezing etc.

better option is picking up two netbooks for £199 or around that price. i know its not as fashionable as an ipad but its darn better for using the internet and youtube/flash etc. although they are more bulky.

are her daughters that much into surfing and facebook??? i mean have they used computers before at home or friends? i would have thought a well setup (anti-virus and firewall as well as some form of website limiting software) netbook with windows would have done the trick ?

edit: if it was me just buy a pc/netbook for them to share and let them argue about who gets a shot and stuff. each having a netbook/ipad etc is pretty sad and expensive.

Depending on how much your sister is willing to spend, Have a look at the Archos 101 They're a brilliant bit of kit.
What about a netbook??, You can pick some brilliant ones on here and at most computer shops for around the same price maybe a little bit more.

Hey guys,

I had the brother in law around again tonight, he mate went to a pc fair and apparently played on one of these devices and they were 'amazing.'

He then shows me these ePads or aPads as it were on fleebay.

I however don't believe they're any good.

He then tells me he's willing to spend upto £150 a piece, and I said 'what, for surfing Facebook? cos' none of the kids will know how to actually use Android'

I left it with him to think about because I again pushed for netbooks, I'm sure I can get 2 good condition used for £300, anyone agree?

They'd be great youtube/facebook/surfing tools, much more useful in my opinion.

Better idea?

I'm in the market for one myself, but am going to hold out until the Advent Vega comes in to stock again, a bit more than you're willing to spend, but loads better. Plus can be hacked into having market place..

I'll take your Android 'tablet' and show you the future!

Notion Ink 'Adam:
http://www.notionink.com/features.php

It allows you to install ANY OS you want on it, from Apple, through to Microsoft its compatible with all.

My advice, tell your relative to hold until next year and they'll have more options rather than buying now and wasting your money.

HTH
