10.6.4 any upgrade issues?

my imac will not stay in sleepmode  screensaver comes on when i does but when the monitor turns of its back on again in 4/5 minutes

Hi. Just bought my first Mac and was wondering what the difference is between the 10.6.4 Update and the 10.6.4 Update (Combo)?
They both seem to include the same things according to the Apple download page?

Thanks

the 10.6.4 Update contains just the changes from 10.6.3 to 10.6.4.

the 10.6.4 Update (Combo) contains all the changes from 10.6.0 to 10.6.4 :)

Hey guys, having some problems with my MacBook Air after installing the new update via Software Updater.

Soon after the update, I could hear the fan spinning much higher than it normally should when just browsing the net. After checking iStat, the CPU was running at 78 Degrees. Toasty. I checked activity monitor and nothing was eating up CPU time so I thought nothing of it, until now.

Once again, the laptop has ramped up the fan and the temperature is hitting 85 degrees as I type. Looking in Activity Monitor, I see that Kernel_Task is using 156% of the CPU - I've yet to see it drop below 150%.

Consequently, my laptop has ground to a halt, it's taken forever to write this post. My OS X knowledge is worse than my Windows, and that is poor at best. A quick google has yielded no useful (or up to date) results, so does anyone on OcUK have any suggestions?

Thanks.

It's very odd that the kernel_task is that high without some severe usage. It could be the mds task (spotlight) that's causing it as it reindexes after an installation.

This is what I thought just after posting as it has happened to me before. But the spotlight logo in the top right isn't animated as it normally ise when indexing, and the mds process is using next to nothing CPU wise either.

Right time to sound a bit mac useless but is there a way to roll back to 10.6.3?? (proper windows style i know) as my mbp has become horrifically unresponsive since I installed it, firefox keeps beachballing when im using more than 3 tabs (at a guess), iv got the nvidia chip so im experiencing the steam problems and loading up things like itunes kills my mac for 30 seconds till it starts going again... :(

Wifi issues here, all other machines are fine but my MBP won't auto connect and keeps coming back with "Connection timed out" or "Invalid Password"

If I move to within a foot of the AP it connects as it should and will stay connected wherever I am...otherwise it takes about 40 attempts to connect.

Just got my first Apple computer and I noticed this update available...

Bit new to OSX... would experienced users suggest I install the update or perhaps wait for a newer update?

Install it IMO, these updates come along every 3-6months (iirc) and in the 5or so years ive been running Macs ive only had 1 bad update... but that was widely criticised and pulled fairly soon after it got released.

Wow... that's not often they come around! Heard there were problems in steam for people, did anyone find a fix for that?

10.6.1 - September 2009
10.6.2 - January 2010
10.6.3 - March 2010
10.6.4 - June 2010

Ive played a lot and not experienced any issues with Steam since upgrading to 10.6.4... well my only issue wasnt related to the update, it was just my firewall was acting up.

If you experience problems after updating then try the following.

Repair permissions.

Run the update again, use the combo update.

After resetting the PRAM for a second time on my laptop, the temps went back down to the ~ 40 degrees where they should be.

So now I'm not having any other problems with the update :)
