£10 for 5 MW2 Maps LOL

I think i said this would be what they'd do as soon as they announced IWnet, iirc the fanbois laughed and said IW would never do such a thing ;)
 
I bought COD4 for £9.99 with 2 of these maps today, got MW2 on PS3 and don't think I will be buying these maps as I only paid £26 on release got what is it like 15 maps with it. Seems like poor value to me but no-one is going to make anyone buy them its personal choice to be mugged off.
Got to say COD4 on P.C you need elastic fingers to hit all control button compared to when I played on Xbox when it was released.
 
Sad to see this kind of thing, but you can't blame Activision for wanting to make money. They are a business after all, and the only people they owe anything to are their shareholders.

It's a shame when big business infects the things we love... but it always happens eventually.
 
It's all about the business model these days. Paid for improvements are par for the course. Team Fortress 2 is just as bad, releasing new content a couple of times a year.

Just look at how much we've had to spend on ... WAR! Update, Hallowe'en Special, Classless Update, The Sniper vs. Spy Update, The Scout Update, A Heavy Update, The Pyro Update and The Gold Rush Update.

The cost of the fine tuning and refreshing gameplay has been a staggering £0.00

Glad I grabbed MW yesterday for a tenner - not that I was even thinking of getting this 'stimulus' on 360 anyways!

But yea it's a good thing Valve at least are sticking to their guns and continuing to release free updates for their games (shame on M$ for charging for them on Xbox Live).

*pats UT2004, ECE and bonus packs* The game cost me less than MW2's "map pack" and the addons were free :p

Of course that's just a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of community content made for UE2.
 
The main reason for locking down custom content. So they don't have to actually think too much for how to rip people off. Fans would've converted the old MW maps ages ago if it was possible but then IW wouldn ot only have to come up with something good they'd have to make it original! And thats just too much trouble.

"Acceptable level" varies depending on competition and preconceptions.

The point is that this stuff costs peanuts to make, in fact the tools used to be given away with games so that fans could make their own maps never mind pay for them. So they lose the preconceptions argument.

Sure in a capitalist world they can charge what they like and get away with it until there is some decent competition. that is all they have going for them right now.

It might work out well when they make a few extra million profit but the computer games industry is reasonably competitive and if enough fuss is made and the next company doesn't charge it leave MW looking bad or at least expensive.

Hopefully it will bite them in the ass.

FPS games and even FPS IPs have a short lifetime and are popular for a bit but in a couple of years another franchise probably with a different publisher will be top dog.

I have already been playing the new battlefield which is superior so in fact they do have competition already and it is better and cheaper.

But then that is why Capitalism fails, people don't make logical choice and are stupid!
