10 year CPU refresh time

OP, if you've not upgraded for 10 years why not wait until later in the year? Current AMD processors are in an extended cycle this gen, so have been on the market over a year already when normally they'd have been superseded by now, and Intel offering a rehash I mean refresh. So, both AMD and Intel should have new processors out later this year. See what best matches your typical use at that time.

When later in the year is this expected?

If imminent then sure it's good to wait, but if we are talking Q3 that's a lot of months of enjoyment you miss.

Q3 I believe or sooner especially for AMD but OP is on a 10 year old system so what's another 8 months?
Buying an AMD processor now, while it might be a little cheaper than on first release, you're buying the same now as you could have over a year ago. AMD's usual release cycle is yearly I think and the 7900X for example was launched Sept 2022 so will be EOL pretty soon and the next gen of processor should be much improved as should the next gen from Intel

To be honest this thought had been crossing my mind. I'm still able to game at 70-80+ FPS. Is an upgrade really going to gain me anything noticeable apart from being able to turn a few extra features on to make the games look "prettier" and max out my monitor refresh rate

Certainly questionable dropping £600+ when everything is still working....!
