My cpu keeps jumping to 100% load.

I have reinstalled xp pro and it is still the same.

Various processes can use up full load at different times eg. iexplorer.exe, svchost.exe and other.

I have a s754 AMD62 3000 cpu wth 1gb of ram.

This problem started out of the blue without me adding any new hardware etc

Have you checked in the Task Manager to see which process is hogging all your CPU.

They shouldn't do if the PC is idle.

Go into your task manager, click the processes tab and order by CPU usage. Then check what's at the top / jumping to the top.

to explain...when i do different things instead of them using 5-10% cpu load like they used to they now use 90-100% instead  eg playing a video in media player used to use a few % cpu load where as now it uses 40%

if i use the internet then explorer.exe will show as using 100% cpu usage in the processes tab.

i tried firefox but that laso used full load.

Yeah i know that, but 100% usage all the time aint right, which i thought he was on about, but as he said which i missed, various processes can use it, which they will do. :o :p

You could have a corrupt video file etc on your hard disk. To rule this problem out, move your audio and video files to another disk which you won't be accessing i.e external drive which you can switch off or to another computer.

All it takes is for you to open up the corrupt file or even open the folder/drive the file is on for your cpu to max out.

I've seen this happen many times but it might not solve yours though.
