100% cpu usage..

Since this morning, whenever i open a folder my cpu usage will shoot up to 100% and stay there even after i close it. (The folder will usually stop responding too.) My computer then returns to normal after ending explorer.exe

This is very irritating, i have run anti-virus and anti-spyware programs but to no avail.

Suggestions? or am i going to have to format?

is it a specific folder? does it have video's in there? with the view set to thumbnails?

It is all folders, and well yes i have thumbnails turned on in all my folders. Could that be it?

if you have thumbnails on and there is a currupt file in there it will try to read the file to give a thumbnail of it and crash instantly, happens with currupt movies most of the time.
