100% disk usage on laptop and SMART errors

I've got a small issue at the moment. (well I have a big issue but that is in hand)

My main PC is a 27" iMac. It has died today, from looking at it, I think it is a graphics failure - Apple have a replacement programme for them though and I have an appointment booked. It does mean that I will be out of action for at least a week on that.

I've been using my wife's laptop today to do a few things and have noticed it is much slower than it used to be. It is constantly running at 100% disk usage even when the disk activity is quite low. I've checked all the usual things to fix that to no avail.

I ran an HDD tool to check the SMART stats of the drive. It has a few items marked as caution.

There is a reallocated sector count of 98. Also the temperature is quite high at 55 degrees.

I think I will replace the HDD in this with an SSD. I don't want to do this however until I get my iMac fixed and returned as I will need a second machine to have on hand for data transfer, installing any necessary tools or OS stuff on USB etc.

How worried should I be about those reallocated sectors? Are they likely to be the cause of the high disk usage?

I'd like to know of anything I can do in the very short term to make sure this doesn't die in the next two weeks.
