~£100 Graphics Card with DisplayPort

Hi,

I've got a 4K monitor on the way, and I need a graphics card with DisplayPort to output the full resolution at 60 Hz.

I'm not a big gamer; I've currently got a GTX 750 Ti and it's great for my needs, but my particular card doesn't have DisplayPort. So, I'm looking for something similar to replace it.

The GTX 950 seems like a good bet at around £120, although this monitor does have Freesync which I wouldn't mind trying if there is a similarly capable card from AMD in the same price bracket.

Thanks :)

Looks like it's the 950, then. If I choose to upgrade in a big way next year for any reason (only one I can think would be the Rift), I may choose a Freesync-capable card.

I know you said you are not a big gamer but what are you expecting to do on the PC?

You might want to look at pricier options to make the most of your monitor, or you could find it a struggle to play the few games you do enjoy.

Used 285 (same as 380) or R9 290 will be the best upgrade with Freesync. A 290 should be around £140-£180 used..miles better than the other options.

I would aim for a used 290 myself if you plan to do anything more on 4k than use VLC player. You get a lot of bang for that sorta buck. I love my 290x's still and i paid full price on the day of release for one of them and have no regrets!

Support for features is determined by how new the architecture is more than anything else.

Performance is the main decider on price rather than features. New architecture affects performance but the main factor in performance when comparing these cards is the number of processing units and clock.

New tech =/= Better Performance

Definitely try to find a used 285/380, the amount of screen tearing you'll see can't be overstated and freesync would do a TON of work.

After seeing all these additional posts, I was probably a bit hasty ordering the GTX 950.

However, the main reason I ordered a 4K monitor is simply to have all that extra space on the desktop. Any gaming I do (Hearthstone, for example) will likely be in a window, and it really appeals to be able to view full web pages alongside other windows. If I do any fullscreen gaming, it will be at 1080p unless the engine is really undemanding.
