Hi hopefully the OP C64 will return, in the meantime a question, could those be tweeked to spare £130 perhaps with a cheaper MB's/drives/or use standard cooler and then include a gtx1070?

The Zotac gtx 1070 is £390 and has a 5 year warranty. £130 more. Just out of interest.
 
 
In terms of gaming you wont notice anything between a 6700k and 6800k but id say if you are doing a lot of video editing I would go for Stulids build and with the 6800k and GTX 1060 over spending the same on an 6700k and the rx480.

I think I understand the CPU recommendation here, is it in relation to cores, threads and cache and video processing prowess.

i7 6700 is 4 cores, 8 threads and cache 8MB
i7 6800 is 6 cores, 12 threads and cache 16MB - better for video processing.

Is that correct?

Yeah the 1070 is a great card but its almost £400 vs a solid 1060 that will easily handle 1080p gaming for around £150 less.

yeah the 6800k is much stronger for things like rendering and even at 4k ive seen the 6800k knocking around 20 to 30 percent of the render time off over a 6700k so its a logical choice for video editing at this budget imo.
 
If your using a program that supports AMD gpus for accelerated workflow and rendering i would highly suggest a amd card at that price point TBH. I used to have and old i5 with a 280x and always wondered why my render times were so close to my friends 6 core 32gb ram beast at the time and i figured out it was because my card was doing a lot of the work load and he had a 770 at the time.

What was the 6 core system, in terms of 32gb ram that wouldnt have really given him any advantage for rendering. The reasons your render times could have been close seems more down to CPU, your newer, higher bandwidth 3gb rx280 should out perform a slightly older GTX 770 (not sure if he had the 2 or 4gb version) and on paper more cores help of course but say for example you had the rx280 along with an i5 3570 (just choosing a random 2012 chip) vs say a 6 core AMD FX 6300 and a gtx 770 then the i5 will win every time even if you switched the graphics cards around and paired the i5 with the 770.

I dont see any video editing/randering value between having say an Radion RX 480 or the GTX 1060 but the GTX 1060 will perform a little better in most games. But its worth keeping in mind the support for support for DX12, Vulkan, and Crossfire with the 480 over a 1060. So just personal preference really from a gaming POV really, wont really make a difference on the video editing side.

I was reading about i5 2500k and support for DX12.........noob here. So don't newer CPUs support DX12?

the i5 2500k was just a random chip I used as an example, wasnt putting it in there as a recommendation.

As for DX 12, its not Mainstream yet and not a huge selection of games suppoort it but due to the build up of the board, extra engines etc it allows newer AMD cards to out perform similar priced Nvidea chips, same also goes for Vulcan however many are saying Nvidea handles Vulcan just as well as AMD just not on Doom. Its all damn confusing at the moment :D :D :D
