Seeing as my 3 year old Radeon 9800 Pro setup has died, I'm going to need a new PC. I've budgeted £1000 for the base unit, no input peripherals needed. I'll be using it for gaming, plus I want to get into machinima so capturing and editing gameplay video will also be one of the uses.
Here's what I had in mind for some of the components:
Case: Antec P180 - I am looking for a plain black case with no window and no lights that is cool and quiet. Don't really want to go above £90 for the case.
HDD: I'm pretty much set on the 750GB Spinpoint based on the review in this month's Custom PC, plus my current 160GB Spinpoint has given me no problems.
RAM: 4GB of reasonably fast RAM
GPU: Don't know whether to go for an 8800 GTX or spend extra for the 9800 GX2.
CPU: Not sure - Intel Quad Core?
MOBO: Something around the £100 mark that's a good all rounder. Built in Wifi would be a bonus as I don't have a wireless adapter or PCI card.
PSU: Around about the 70-80 quid mark. Something that has enough power to handle the current spec as well as some future additions.
OS: Vista 64 bit? Premium or Ultimate?
I'm planning on getting either a 20 or 22 inch monitor, so will be running games at 1680x1050. As far as overclocking is concerned, I haven't OCed before but will give it a go if the components can do it without too much hassle.
Any ideas? Cheers
