Hello all!

It's that time of the year again for me, and seeing as though you lot done an amazing job of spec'ing out my last computer for me a year a go, I thought I'd use your knowledge on the recent hardware (if of course you lot would be so kind) to build me another new one. Now, I haven't kept up with hardware for almost 8 months or so now so I have no idea what's decent and what isn't.

Basically, the budget is £1000. For that I want: Everything (every single component (CPU, Mobo, Case, PSU, Additional Fans etc), every peripheral (Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse etc) and last but not least, a UPS (I have absolutely no idea what's decent and what isn't with UPS's).

Any help you guys give with this would be amazing, and greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Breaks.

My current spec is the following:

Thermaltake VC3000BWS Armour Jr SuperMidi Tower - Black
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB)
HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 V2 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3 (PCI-E)
Western Digital Caviar RE 160GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Enermax Noisetaker 535W EG565AX-VE(W) SFMA ATX2.0 SLI Compliant PSU
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
Samsung 18x18 DVD+RW (Black)

However I would not like to reuse any of it. I would like a completely new build with fresh components. I would like to do some gaming on the new build however nothing hardcore. So long as it runs WoW on full detail and maybe some of the latest games out today (not future release planned games, I have no desire to play any game that isn't out yet).

Thank you for your reply.

i see nothing wrong with your build, i personally will just upgrade the MB and graphics*, then overclock the cpu and maybe add another 2gb of ram and save the rest of the money. your cpu when overclocked will be fine for game today, however if your needs are more towards things like encoding then a quad may be an investment.

*you may want to wait as ati are putting out new cards soon.

are you planning on selling it then?

surely for what you want it for you could just upgrade parts of it.

put in a q6600, 4gb ram (if 64bit), new HDD and an 8800gt/s/x, that should leave you £500 exc the parts you could sell and you can buy a nice big tft.

would do all you wanted it too and more.

If I was going to changed things:

Different motherboard
4GB of ram
Q6600 G0

Keep current GPU till next gen (if you really must buy a new one now an 8800GT would be fine)

And depending on the monitor size / quality you have now maybe a 24" one.

so he can overclock the q6600 to its fullest potential ,965p can overclock a q6600, but its not as good at it as a p35 or x38

its fullest potential maybe, but considering his mobo is more than adequate there seems little point and assuming he has ok case cooling and he doesnt live in an airing cupboard he will still be able to get a 3ghz clock.

Would be interesting to see what you could get for £1,000, especially if you already have good enough peripherals and just need the actual box, because if you spent all your money on that you would have one cracking system!

are the HD48** this month or next, if anyone knows?

to the OP, i agree with the others, some extra ram and maybe a new gpu would save a load of money.

I'm not wanting to upgrade my current one because quite a few components are faulty / damaged from power surges and such (it's been rigged up to a faulty power outlet for a good while now, plus I'm moving this one downstairs and want a better personal one for up). So upgrading is out of the question. I'm looking for a completely new build.

Thanks all for replying thus far.

you need a case and a UPS though.

you may want to choose a 45nm dual core cpu over a 65nm quad core if you dont need the quad.
