Ok, my friend is looking for a new computer and thought you guys would be able to help.

He has £1000 to spend on the computer itself (he doesn't need any monitors, mice, operating system etc)

The computer will be used for gaming (mainly wow, but wants to play BF3 and skyrim)

He's looking for an Intel processor. Probably either the 2500k or 2600k.

Why? it does crossfire at 8X/8X:D

No.
The motherboard header pins on the GD53 are covered if a dual slot graphics card is fitted:D - http://www.markljlewis.com/stupidmsi.jpg

Try again~!!!!

i was thinking of the C45, not the G45

as for the motherboard pins thing, why on earth would they move them on the GD53? agree with the title of that picture for sure

with raid 0, doesnt it mean that if one of the drives fail, then all data is lost?
and raid one is basically making two HDD's exactly the same for backup

Exactly, although there are some hyped up claims of speed increases in RAID 0- realistically, the benefits for mechanical drives are very small, and the doubled chance of failure for both drives is a price not worth paying.

That's exactly what RAID1 is, but it's not true backup- it only saves you if the cause of failure for a drive is mechanical. In any other case, the data is killed on both drives. If you're looking for true backup, you need to clone your drive onto an external hard drive, or DVDs if you've got the time as it works out cheaper per GB.

Of course some people do run it without issues, but the significantly increased risk of failure for negligible performance gain- and the fact that it's more expensive- make it a pretty poor choice.

If you want a fast 1TB storage solution, get the Spinpoint F3.
