Evening all,

Purely out of curiosity, how do you think a £1000 PC will compare with the PS5?

I know we don’t know full specs and all the ins and outs just yet, but going off of how much we know now? I’ve not even bought all the components for my first PC yet because I’m still figuring everything out, so I have no idea how they’ll stack up against each other tbh.

Still not found my way around the whole forum so feel free to direct me to a better place to post this if it shouldn’t be here.

Not sure but I'd guess that it'll be close but the PS5 may win early on at least. The next Xbox is supposed to be more powerful than the PS5 from the little I've read about it, but with Graphics card and CPU prices as high as they are you will struggle to beat the Xbox/PS5 on release for £1k.

What items have you purchased already? What do you want to do with the system? We can help you out if you aren't sure what to get to get things finished.

That’s surprising to hear. Doesn’t effect my decision to switch to PC because out of all the reasons I’ve decided to switch, performance isn’t really one of the main ones.

So far just case and motherboard. I think I know everything I’m getting it’s Just my car decided it wanted a new clutch the day before I was going to order everything so I’ve had to space out my purchases haha

I imagine that a £1000pc will be better (will support a higher resolution monitor at higher fps) than a ps5.

so have you already got the case and motherboard or are deciding on which case and motherboard to get?

my daughter and son used to primarily game on the playstation but have now gravitated to mostly PC gaming. however I imagine that they will both get a ps5 this xmas. Daughter also uses a switch. playstation games are generally easier to play and are dedicated for the device and therefore more optimised for the lower capability - so you could get either a £1000 pc or a £500 ps5 for gaming. games are roughly the same price for both - sometimes they are expensive and sometimes you can get them discounted. so no real argument for either.

The new gen are at least going to have SSDs thank god. The Xbox One was a pathetic mess of a console imo with a processor that couldn't handle basic commands on the user interface, as well as long boot times. I'd like to think the new gen can handle basic use such as viewing friends or achievements etc. And with streaming being common now, i'd like to think the processors are now half decent that's good enough to not hang on basic commands at least. XB360 and PS3, stellar consoles though.

Graphics wise, i've no idea, and that shouldn't be your whole decider on whether you want a good or not. I'd take note of how a console is potentially supposed to be plug and play, plays blu ray, has a nice controller already (vs faffing about with the right size mouse etc). Also how hardware problems are easy to fix on console -you send the whole unit back, unlike PC where you need to figure out which part is causing issues. PC offers Steam, which is great imo. PC has more audio hardware options if that tickles your fancy. What operating system a console allows you to do, would be a concern for me. Lots to think about if you're unsure on dedicating ££ to either PS5 or PC.

i don't think it will be. first of all xbox one x is already 4K and so is the ps4 pro.

these will be true 4k @ 60hz machines.

so a £1K pc

£75 - RAM
£100 - PSU
£200- Mobo
£200 - CPU
£40 - cooler
£85 - case
£100 - SSD

that leaves £200 for a GPU, keyboard, mouse, mouse mat

sure you could skimp on the motherboard by £100 but you will likely need at least £400 for a GPU these days new

PC's are very expensive. he would be looking at a 1660 super which isn't 4K capable at all. for a 4K capable GPU it's £600 easy maybe even £800+.

Already ordered case and mobo. Should get the rest this month.

Definitely want get a PC. I’ll most probably end up buying a PS5 for the living room anyway. It was just curiosity more than trying to pick one of the two.

I wasn't sure if you were restricting funds from the PC so you could have both :D

Have you got a decent TV and soundsystem already?

TV will be purchased with the remaining components. As for sound, I only ever use a headset anyway so I’ll probably stick with that.

i think regardless of the performance between both, its still a console vs pc, you can only do so much on a console other than what its designed for where as a PC has many uses. Maybe wait till a PS5 comes out and see who has one for trial playing in-store or see if theres any events just incase you dont even like the PS5.
