Hi guys, a friend is wanting a 'gaming' pc. Only thing is, he doesn't have any thing, so it would have to be a complete build, he originally suggested £700 all in but I didn't think it would leave much in the way of the actual components, i don't know though so I'm hoping you guys can help with a set up.

Thanks :)

EDIT: To add, he also asked for wireless keyboard and mouse

No way that you'd want to build it yourself? It's good fun and can save a decent amount of money to spend on better components, there's loads of good guides out there.

I had a quick go on the configurator, as a pre-built with monitor, O/S and peripherals even an ati fx6300 system was coming in at £1200 inc Vat.

Id guess if you built it yourself you could build it for less than £1000, ill post a components list later when I get chance.

Brilliant, thanks guys.

I have built a couple in the past and confident in doing so, I'm just not so sure my friend would have the confidence in me :D I've messaged him so when he takes a break (Truck driver) he can let me know.

Thanks.

Got an answer. He would be happy for me to help built computer out of components rather than a pre built.

:D

That's great.
He will get warranty anyway, plus freedom to swap stuff and upgrade whenever he wants.

I wouldn't go for wireless peripherals to be honest, but that's his choice.
With this budget it looks like AMD build, maybe APU.
What kind of games does he like?

Great system. Will still have to purchase an OS but that wont be much more, what one do you recommend? He should be more than happy with that set up. Games he likes to play are Kerbal Space Programme and Train Sim 2014. Thanks a bunch :D

No need for a ati build :P Fulux has nailed it. Id consider adding an ssd and I think he wanted an O/S apart from that great build.

If he wants to save a bit of money (in the short term) he could use a three-month free trial of WIndows 8.1. That's what I did when I was putting my rig together. A lot of people don't rate WIndows 8.1, but it's fine really. The start screen feels like it was designed for tablets (because it was) but once you get past that there's nothing wrong with it. It gets better performance in some games compared to WIndows 7, too, apparently.

Speaking of games: are those the only ones he plays? If so, he could perhaps do with saving a bit on the GPU to get an SSD in the budget.

He plays them because they only just about run on his current PC, so with a more capable computer he said he will more than likely buy more games.

Save making a new thread, anyone fancy suggesting a gaming rig with a budget of £2500? I've been looking at the Ultima 460i Scimitar V2 pre build, so would love something similar I could build at home, I would need a monitor and os but mouse and keyboard I could add on top of price.

Thanks guys, you have been super helpful and hopefully my friend buys the components soon!!!

It isn't watercooled like the Scimitar, but it does get you Crossfire 290s rather than a single 290X.

The orange spray paint is for the rings on the SP120s, AF140, and the pump on the h105.

Couple of great systems guys, thanks. I'm going to have to finalise a few things and then I can start purchasing some gear.

Thanks again :D
