sli - meh. Single high end GPU often makes more sense, although if sli was ever worth considering, I suppose it's 2x 460s! It will be interesting to see what comes out looking best out of the new 69xx cards or the 480. Make a decision after the launch dust has settled.

The key is to go through the whole spec at purchasing time and tweak it to take maximum advantage of the week or day special offers. This will just mean changing brands usually of RAM, GPU, PSU etc. Can usually save at least £30 on a system price.
 
worst case scenario, adding in a GTX 480 will only take me to £900 & i'll still have enough for an SSD aswell.
 
Considering just buying this:



Save a few pennies, would that be suitable to run things like Wow/COD:black ops etc on high details/res with amazing fps?

And would i notice a huge difference going from the following (in performance ofc)

Phenom II 940 3.0Ghz, really should OC that lol
& a HD 4850 512mb


EDIT ^^ Still have that HD in my basket,completely forgot to swap it out. will be going with the one stulid linked earlier on :)
 
i was debating over that exact same one, i guess i'll go with that then, the performance of this will greatly out-do my current rig right?
 
now that you have mentioned you have a 940be cpu, im wondering with a little money spent, you cant just beef that up instead? such as a fast graphics card, psu to suit, and a few other little parts.

full specs of everything? makes and model numbers? amount of ram?

sapphire HD4850 512mb
Phenom II 940 @ 3.0ghz stock (deneb)
250GB HD
430W PSU (think it's barely alive as it is)
Biostar 790GX (im pretty sure that's it, bare with me)

forgot, 4GB Kingston DDR2 1066Mhz iirc

I have an Artic 74 freezer pro lying around if that helps at all, board only supports DDR2 1066mhz iirc, upgrading this system might be a good idea actually lol xD

May also be noted that I have a fool willing to pay £450-500 for this system, that was going into my £1k new rig

I thinking its worth just buying a kick-ass psu and case now, too last for many years.

the new ATI 6 series are released this week, you have a crossfire capable motherboard!!

get a 500gb Harddrive and a 64gb SSD.

then next year buy the latest tech (socket1155) from intel.
 
decisions decisions :D I'm so impatient, I have a buyer lined up for this system for £450, (not inc monitor/OS) I think i'd be a fool to pass that up, I priced everything in it brand new & it's close to the figure im getting, although waiting out for a 6970 with a nice psu/case & ssd does sound extremely appealing

£450 sounds good price for that, reminds me of a Harry and paul sketch called "I saw you coming"
 
Yeah it is indeed, i spec'd everything in it coming to around that & ive had it for a good few years lol. the i5 bundle i was looking at before is back up to £357 DOTW price, like £370 normally :( do i get my basket price? ^_^ strangely that hasen't updated +£30 :[

I would be inclined to get a larger one, even with Win 7 and drivers and a few programs I used 25gig ~

Roger, for the sake of a £10 probably a wise choice

Am i right in thinking the 460 takes 2 x 6 pin connecters?
